RIP Stephan Miller

You may not know him by name but you might have been familiar with his magazine "Girls and Corpses" and the UHMN website where he was known as Gunslinger.

Anyway, Melissa Bacelar just posted a bulletin about this and it's even all over the UK newspapers.

I've just copied the news from the Rue Morgue Forum:

"Stephan Miller was training Rocky, a 700 lb. grizzly bear (last seen on the film Semi-Pro) on the movie animal compound for Predators In Action. Stephan was moreso helping out on the family business, having retired from training.

Stephan helped get the magazine Girls & Corpses going, was starting up Sharenow, and working on a website called The Underground Horror Movie Network.
His uncle is Alfred Sole, director of Alice Sweet Alice. At age 39, he leaves behind a wife and child."

It's truly sad.

Re: RIP Stephan Miller

Here's the official news report:

Movie grizzly kills trainer

SAN BERNADINO, Calif., April 23 (UPI) --

A 700-pound grizzly bear that appeared in the movie "Semi-Pro" attacked and killed a trainer in California Tuesday, authorities said.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said Stephan Miller, 39, was killed when the grizzly lunged unexpectedly and bit him on the neck, the Los Angeles Times reported. Miller was dead at the scene of the attack, a compound near Big Bear Lake run by Miller's cousin called Predators in Action where wild animals are trained for movie and television work, the Times reported.

Other trainers got the bear under control with pepper spray.

According to the Predators in Action Web site, the bear appeared in the WiIl Ferrell movie "Semi-Pro."

The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the state Department of Fish and Game were investigating. It was not immediately known what would happen to the bear, the Times reported.

He was due to produce Nick Palumbo's next film - "Corpses".

Re: RIP Stephan Miller

Sorry for the double post BUT...

What makes it even worse is that now only a few hours on there's an ass on YouTube currently ridiculing Stephan Miller's death.

I need everyone with a YouTube account to flag this idiot, report him and leave him appropriate comments.

Here's the link:

Please and thank you.

Re: RIP Stephan Miller

wild animals are just that wild.  you may think you tame them but they still have instincts like any other wild animal.  it's a shame the bear lost it's life.  it was just doing what instinct told him to do.  granted i am not saying Mr. Miller deserved to die but neither does the bear.

Re: RIP Stephan Miller

Unfortunately that they way animal that attack their trainers are dealt with. The animal may have just not wanted to be messed with that day but they can't just say that can they. Epitome is right, bottom line it's still a wild animal not matter what tricks it can do. I'm sorry to hear the trainer lost his life but as an experienced trainer he had to know the risk.

Re: RIP Stephan Miller

I know the magazine and I'm not sure if I met the guy at a WOH's in Burbank or not, but it could've happened.  I'm really sorry to hear about this and I wish his family well.

I agree....the wild will always be wild even if they are so called tamed. Look at what happened to that magician a few years ago who was clawed by his pet tiger....I think it was Seigfried and Roy guy.
