Topic: Host remake?

Why? All of the review I have read and word of mouth says it's an excellent movie. Why remake it and put some dipshit like Ben Affleck in it so they can release it here in the states. I like many others would rather see the original than some rehashed americanized crap put out by Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer. Look at The Grudge, what was wrong with puting the original Ju-On in theatres. Are americans viewed as dumb or unable to comprehend a forign film? Or is this a Hollywood studio ploy to make money off someone elses idea? I don't get it, what do you guys think. (Sorry guys, I guess my soapbox is pretty tall today.)

Re: Host remake?

I just read on Dread Central Universal won the bidding war for it.  And apparently from what they say the film is heading into production as fast as possible:

Well, we Americans are stupid and in terms of horror a punch of pussies.  I mean calling THE DESCENT original ending too dark?  That definatly shows that mainstream really doesn't understand good stuff.

Universal is a good company, so I really hope they at least do something that will not make us even more mad than we are now and make it with a bunch of teens going looking for their friend.

I hate that, it's such crap. I for one will just watch the original.

Re: Host remake?

i dont know if it a good remake i would watch it. I will just get GoldenSimatar to waste his money first and warn me tongue

Re: Host remake?

Hell, I've already blown money renting SNAKES ON A TRAIN and HILLSIDE CANNBAILS so what could be worse than that?

Re: Host remake?

Yea I mean this came as no surprise.. We all knew a long time ago this remake was coming.. I've got to see how they manage this before I go off on a rant about it.. I mean it is an Asian film being remade for English speaking audiences.. Which I can understand to a point. I've never seen the original so maybe I'll change my tune after I see it.. I've also heard that the movie has some strong anti-american messages in it which might be one of the reasons a remake is in order..

Re: Host remake?

I thought it has some ant military statements but who knows. I just wish they would leave stuff alone, we don't need it changed to be shown here in the states. I'm just not sure why people feel that way.

Re: Host remake?

The original HOST opens with a US soldier or some other sort of personal ordering dumping of toxic chemicals into a stream that feeds into the Han river.  This scene is based off a true event so that is the reason behind the US military thing.  Probably for here they will either keep that or make it a coporation's fault.

But, the incident with the chemical dumping in S.K happened less than a decade ago I think.

I know at least during the Cold War the CIA dumped thousands of gallons of photo solution around the southern area of my county and they still pay millions of dollars a year to truck in fresh water.

Here is an article in THE KOREAN TIMES about the incident:

And HOST's wiki page with a brief thing about it on the top:

Re: Host remake?

Haha a remake of The Host?  Damn, I havent even seen the original yet.  But as we all know, whenever there is an American remake of an asian horror film...its rarely any good.
