Even if you don’t like MARTYRS, you will have to admit you have never witnessed its like before. If you stay the course and stick with it through the end credits, you’ll see Laugier’s closing dedication to Dario Argento, for those who hadn’t guessed this influence from the writer/director’s gloriously unapologetic blend of the surreal, the excessive, the repulsive and the unpredictable. And anyone who can appreciate the Italian maestro’s work will have no problem embracing MARTYRS as the stunning masterwork and unforgettable experience it so reassuringly is.
