I finally found a Takashi Miike film, and I immediately picked it up...  and it turns out it's some sci-fi thing about a j-pop girl who gets hit by a truck and downloaded onto a laptop...  yikes

Actually, before Takashi Miike began doing horror he was known for his Yakuza films which are awesome.  Also, he has done some comedies and a musical.

If you want to see some good Yakuza films, I fully recommend the following: The Dead or Alive Trilogy, Full Metal Yakuza, and Gozu.

also The Bird People of China. very different then most of his work.
