Topic: Critique Guidelines
Horror Literature has become a home for horror fiction that isn't tied to film, and I love that it's a place where we can share our own writings.
When "critiquing" contributor work, please keep some guidelines in mind...
- Keep the suggestions constructive. Offer advice the writer can use.
- Authors, please let your readers know just what you are looking for, a critique or even just an audience.
- Readers, respect the author's wishes.
- Don't be Simon Cowell. This isn't American Idol.
Think about it, if you get slammed with comments that are harsh and unproductive, you'll never want to open yourself up again. Maybe this is sugar coating, but what good can come of hurting someone's feelings? If you hate every little thing about a piece, maybe the best choice is to keep it to yourself and choose not to reply. By the way, I've taken and taught creative writing courses, and I've seen all this play out in the real world. Sticking to this kind of framework yields the best results.
