Re: Tropic Thunder

I saw Tropic Thunder and I thought it was just OK. There were a few funny moments in it but I felt like I seen it before hmm a little deja vu was happenin with me.

Is Jack Black good in anything?  I think the only movie I like him in is I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, only because he dies in it.  Dreaming.......

I liked him in Bio-Dome....granted it was only 5 seconds but good stuff.

And I liked King Kong.

Re: Tropic Thunder

but, Tropic Thunder has the greatest line of all time:

I'M A LEAD FARMER MOTHER FUCKER!

Re: Tropic Thunder

Aye, tis a classic line.

Re: Tropic Thunder

I know Jack Black has had some duds but c'mon School of Rock is awesome, Kung Fu Panda, King Kong (of course), Mars Attack and Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny are brilliant! Also I do have a guilty love thing for The Cable Guy, I think for what it is, it's good! tongue

Ok I am slightly biased as I do think some movies he's done have been so much fun lol, can't deny the laughter factor! big_smile

I trust you.  I don't hate his movies, just he's not funny.  I liked King Kong.  I liked Tropic Thunder.  All his other ones weren't bad, just he's not a comedian to me, he tries too hard.

Yes he is.  Listen to Tenacious D.

Re: Tropic Thunder

Thought the film had a great concept but kinda ran out of steam halfway. Stiller's retard schtick is getting a bit old.

The fake trailers at the beginning were quite fun; established the right tone.

Re: Tropic Thunder

Trouble with the powers that be is that they create parodies of a lot of comedians, giving them the same lines, same script etc. Except in Stillers case where he seems to do it to himself. And Carrey is another one I just cannot stand, as even when his role is different he is still the same.  If any of these guys stayed in stand-up and tried to do this night after night for years their audiences would begin to leave in droves. A joke is no longer funny (unless its a bloody good one) when told to you 10000 times.

Re: Tropic Thunder

I think Carrey would have killed forever in stand-up. fortunately for him Animal Detective happened.  I agree with the observation that the film lost focus mid-way and faltered. Still it was funny and had moments.

Re: Tropic Thunder

I thought it lost steam towards the end, as well, but I still really enjoyed it.  Personally I'm a big fan of Stiller, and though the "retard" role he played in the film-within-the-film was a bit overstated even for broadly comedic purposes, I still think he nailed the vapid action movie hunk character.  But as much as I enjoyed this flick, the funniest bits, to me, were the faux trailers at the beginning.  "Satan's Alley" is a Judd Apatow flick waiting to happen.
