Topic: True Blood....horror or softcore porn with fake blood?

I am a fan of the first season of True Blood. While the show does not stick too close to the books it is based off of (the books are great) it is well done and entertaining; or, at least it was...

While visiting my parents this weekend I had the bright idea of watching season two episodes with my parents. This would have been fine if the second season was anything close to the first, however, I couldn't help but notice that HBO up-ed the sex by a good 50%. If you haven't watched a supernatural cult-orgy scene with your parents than you might not understand sad  it was, for lack of a better term, awkward.

Sookie also seems to have a stronger sex drive since last season as well. Even Tara and Bill are having sex. If I wanted to watch softcore porn I would have Cinemax. I'm not a prude but I wouldn't mind if HBO cleaned up their act a smidge so the plot and storylines could outshine the 20 sex scenes that seem to takeover every episode thus far.

What does everyone else think? Is it just me or is Sookie starting to resemble Anita Blake?

Yeah, Vamp Wife and I noticed that it is straying farther off course now.  One of the reasons I liked the "Dead by" series was that sex wasn't such a big factor.   But this is HBO, who has produced 'Real Sex' along with some other series about the porn business.  Has there been any HBO produced show (or episode even) without sex or nudity? 

I don't think it's quite as far along as Anita Blake.  When she gets into threesomes that include an Ewok rubbing up on her cheek, then I'm bailing.  That was when I bailed on Anita.

You say 'softcore porn with fake blood' like it's a bad thing! lol  I actually thought that Season 2 has had less sex in it than Season 1 but it hasn't stopped me enjoying it.  The sex scenes don't bother me but they have just started showing Season 1 over here and when people asked if I'd recommend watching it, my reply was always 'yes, but don't watch it with anyone if you are going to be embarrassed because it has a lot of sex in it'.

But as I remember Sookie was a virgin in the first book and not the type to sleep around. So I can't see why there would be so much sex in the show unless it's between her and Bill?

I can tell you why there's sex....because they can.  HBO can swear and have sex, so the show has it.

The first season has only just premier'd over here last week and you guys are talking about the second all ready. Where am i living a developing country or what? Any way, more sex you say, well alright!!!! lol

After watching the first season , you should know that there is plenty of nudity & sex on the show and should never watched it with your parents.

The early parts of season 1 had jason having sex with random naked chicks in almost every episode.

I've only just started watching True Blood (only just aired here smile) and I am loving it so far. Ok it is not wholly original but there is something very wholesome about having Anna Paquin as Sookie and I do like the rather dark approach it does take.

As for softcorn porn with fake blood? if this was suppose to put me off it hasn't! LOL! Now I really need to continue watching this show. Sounds awesome! big_smile

Yep i agree, sex and death go together like err well sex and death. Vampire integration's a pretty cool move too.

True Blodd is good stuff and sex selss, its also produced by Alan Ball the genius behind American Beauty which was a very sexual film, that and its HBO, they can get away with what they want.  The show is still good, orgies withstanding

I totally blanked on Jason being a man-whore through out the first season... guess it didn't really register. I guess I'm just bothered by the fact that it's so loosley based off the books.

I just fintshed watching the 2nd episode of season 1 & am loving it. it's very refreshing to see sex & blood like that on tv.:)

Horror is mainly based off of the gore and whore principal. It's what keeps it mildly entertaining. Not only does True Blood embrace that but it also has good characters and storylines that I really care about. The sex and violence just drives it home. The whole vampire mythology is inspired by romanticism and erotica. It was said that the obscene act of drinking blood symbolizes devouring certain intimate bodily fluids. However the blood orgies (cool name for a band, or a song atleast) do go a little over board, albeit I think they're trying allign the storyline with certain demonic rituals that are either recorded in history or dreamt up in a paranoid-christian society (no offense indended to anybody).

Its both, HBO series have alot of nudity look at Entourage... and vampires are synonymous with sex..
