Re: The Last Battleground
More movie updates soon, The Aborted will be out soon...maybe even next week...in the meantime- Here's the cover of my novel coming out. It's about four teenage girls that start killing people in their small town. Book ain't no joke. The reaction from people after they read it is insane. It's the kind of thing I'd never show my mother. Gonna be out very, very soon (Aborted comes first)
If I ever go for a little while without updating here, don't fret, I'll always be back, there's sometimes I'll be updating here nonstop and other I'll go for a few days without coming around. Never doubt though, this place and you guys is a priority for me! More details about the book very very soon!

Re: The Last Battleground
Okay Folks. Here's what's going on. We are currently shooting: THE COMPLEX So most of the updates, if it's not about a films release is going to be about this movie. The film revolves around a man, who wakes up in a hallway with no idea who he is or how he got there, the only clue is the number 109 etched into his arm. He's chased by some kind of black creature, which eventually leaves him alone, and quickly finds other people, none of them remember who they are or how they got there either all they know is that there is no escape, and if they get out of line or cause trouble, the black creature (known as The Keeper) will take care of them. They all have numbers, and they are content. They take a drug called ambrosia, if you take the drug with someone else and you're touching them, you'll both go to the same place, a kind of dream world. They live their lives, taking their drugs, they don't make waves and they live out their days not trying to question or escape...but this new guy, 109 is not having it...he will find a way out...even if he destroys everyone and everything in the process. I've got about an hour all edited, should be about a month, maybe a month and a half worth of shooting and we'll be wrapped. Here's some pics for ya-

And here's a couple of badass promo shots/posters. More of these to come! We start filming again in March so you'll be getting new shots as they roll in!

I think I'm going to start it's own thread but for a quick update, Down Twisted the webseries part 6 in now LIVE!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9EWabfzAUM Down Twisted part 6 is my second favorite part that’s going to be put up, it’s freaking NONSTOP action for 7 minutes straight. It doesn't slow down for a second. In this installment, it’s an all out free for all as the mutants attack the gang! Hunter and Wagner OWN this part, they kick so much ass it's ridiculous but finally we see Deacon vs. Alex and we find out a secret about Jordan! There’s only two more installments left before it’s over…but if you only watch ONE of these…this is the one to watch! There’s spine ripping, penis cutting, sword fighting, fist flying, knife throwing, slicing and dicing and mutants getting cut in half and heads being punched off…and well…it’s a good one, very fun stuff, and I’m still amazed at how much craziness we managed to pull off!

Re: The Last Battleground
Fangoria.com ran a little story on The Last Battleground (and if you haven't picked up your copy...what you waiting for? It's a kickass little flick I'm telling ya) and The Aborted on their main page today. I know it's not a big deal to a lot of ppl, to a lot of folks it don't mean shit. But I was the kid who used to stay up late at night with a flashlight reading the latest issue, to me, when I was a kid, that magazine was the only proof I had that there were other people who were as nuts about horror as I was. It's a huge deal for me to be associated with them in any way, shape, or form. It's a start!
Re: The Last Battleground
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is incredible news, Sonny. And you deserve it to boot!!! xoxo PS How's the face, love?
Re: The Last Battleground
^ Maven got it spot on Sonny. Btw I still plan to get the DVD no question mark there just a timely process of saving money and paypal taking it's sweet ass time. But after the next two movies I plan to get, it's next on my list. Just time again really. Much like with Gun Town though, really looking forward to getting it.

Re: The Last Battleground
Doing GREAT. It was a rough two weeks man, very interesting. I literally got stares where ever I went, small children were running from me in horror, I really did look like some kind of whacked out Batman villain for a while there, with my one huge bleeding red eye and yellow/brown face. But I'm pretty much back to normal again, face is still a little swollen and my eye is still dark, but my eye's have always been dark so it ain't that bad. Thanks for asking Maven Btw I still plan to get the DVD no question mark there just a timely process of saving money and paypal taking it's sweet ass time.
Hey cool! Let me know what you think, my movies are pretty wild man, very old school! The Aborted's going to be out in a week or two, that one's only going to be 11 bucks, was gonna go for 9 but they ain't going that low haha, but hey I figured 11 bucks is a decent asking price. Here's a few more Complex posters! We're filming again on SUNDAY so prepare yourself for the first filming blog. Those folks who want to know what it's like to do this kind of stuff should find it interesting.

Re: The Last Battleground
Well we're going to film in about an hour, texted everyone to make sure people are still going to show up. We've got several gags tonight, one character pukes pills everywhere (it's kinda weird) there's a crowbar that gets shoved through a head, it also gets shoved through a body, we're also going to beat in someones head with a barbell...lots of chaos tonight, been getting stuff ready for the last 3 hours here. Have pics up late late tonight!

Re: The Last Battleground
OK! Filming is going again! FINALLY! Pissed my cast off pretty bad tonight, you know I just have a severe lack of sympathy for people, just my nature you know? People start complaining I'm usually just like, "Shut the fuck up and buck up you goddamn baby." That's just how I am I guess, maybe it's a Southern thing...I don't know...but haha eesh they were pissed. But they'll get over it you know? Making movies is HARD work, never for a second think that's it's easy, and kind of being the architect of everything, you really gotta PUSH people sometimes, even when they don't want to be pushed, and when you do it make no mistake...they will HATE you for it. But you just have to have faith that in the end, when the movie's done, it'll kick all kinds of ass, and it'll be worth it!

Re: The Last Battleground
Sonny, interesting work. I was curious about a few technical things. What camera set up are you using? Also on the last batleground did you just create some latex props for the demon suits? Also where can i get a copy of the New Girls?

That reminds me of The Exorcist shoot. He put those peeps through hell and it turned out to be a classic. Sometimes you just gotta get down and dirty.

No doubt, those for me are the best shooting nights! interesting work. I was curious about a few technical things. What camera set up are you using?
Thanks ghattprod! I honestly shoot with a little handheld Sony DCR-HC52, the main thing you gotta worry about shooting with a camera like that is lighting but you CAN make it work. The most important thing (for me anyway) is the editing program, for YEARS I edited on Windows MovieMaker, as ghetto as it gets, but I've finally upgraded to Movie Edit Pro 15, with a good editing program you can really make your stuff look better than it should. Also on the last batleground did you just create some latex props for the demon suits?
I'm getting kind of well known for my at home effects. EVERY effect in my movies is used from common househould items or stuff you can buy from Wal-Mart for like 15 bucks. No latex, nothing professional, I don't mean to spam my stuff, but there's an excellent little documentary on The Last Battleground DVD that shows how I do this stuff. If you're really curious check it out. But again, if you're creative you can really sell this stuff. I grew up on old school flicks that didn't always have the best effects. I kind of embrace that mentality. Also where can i get a copy of the New Girls?
EVERYONE is waiting for The New Girls! It's my most popular flick, so I'm really doing up a badass DVD with tons and tons of behind the scenes stuff, so it's taking a little longer to get out, but here's the deal: Next on the release schedule is The Aborted, which should hit this week or next week, then the novel American Giallo, then RIGHT AFTER THAT, The New Girls will be hitting! So tentatively....the end of March it should be about ready to get out, but if it ain't out by the end of March, it'll be out the first or second week of April and that's a promise!

Re: The Last Battleground
Thanks Sonny. I've been working with some effects on my film but i was curious o know how other people are doing it. We are using an hd cam with a 35mm letus adapter on it our shoot. We also built a pretty cool cave set. I'm always interested to get different opinions on what works at this level. I'm on my second feature but i'm always learning as a Director/Writer/Editor. Thanks.
Re: The Last Battleground
Cool Photos! speaking of effects, u can also try to make the eye balls bigger just for a second when the time is right, like they are on acid or something... it's scary and also special cause the red eye thing is overused...

Re: The Last Battleground

April 1st? Hmmmm I'm going to try my damnest man! No promises, but I'm working on it every day. If not April 1st it's hitting April for sure. About The Aborted- I've received emails from male sexists, feminists, right to life advocates, pro-abortion supporters, and even from a plumber telling me it's impossible to flush a dead baby down a toilet. They missed the point. Poor things. I am not anti-abortion. But I am anti-waste, anti-pain, and anti-self-brutalization. I'm not going tell folks what the point of the movie is, ppl need to figure that shit out for themselves. The ABORTED is now for SALE right here!- http://www.amazon.com/Aborted-Justin-Ka
amp;sr=1-2 Directors commentary Trailers Bloopers 11 bucks. Low-Budget horror at it's finest folks. Here's a quick review! With another one coming from Horrormovies.net in a few days! http://horrormoviecentral.weebly.com/1/

Re: The Last Battleground
Thanks Sonny. I think i may pick up a copy of the last battleground next. I had my crew sit down and watch some of your trailers to get an idea of how the genre is different at the indie level. I just mean sometimes a crew has a skewed idea of how things on set should go. I don't know about you but i don't have the luxury of a 30 day shoot. So its definitely a different speed from bigger films. Plus you have a certain style that needs to be recognized.

Haha, like I said man, when you get your hands on a copy, I highly suggest listening to the commentary and watching the behind the scenes stuff. I still can't believe some of the shit we pulled off for that one. Well, sometimes shit don't work out...so you see all those pics of 13 up there? Ehhh, she's kinda done, as in, fired, it happens sometimes. We're replacing her with my pal Jess, new pics of her will be up in a few days...and it's gonna take like 2 or 3 days to refilm the shit, nothing disastrous though! Movie is moving right along...we're well into the LAST bit now! I don't know what ppl will think of this one...there's lots of action...bits off horror...sci fi stuff...and some of the stuff I have coming out is going to be crazy (gonna have to pretty much transform my whole apartment) but I do know it's going to keep ppl guessing all the way through!

Re: The Last Battleground
Yeah stuff does tend to happen my friend. I'm glad you are moving forward with this stuff. My friends don't get the quick shoot style. I've warned them up a bit but they still don't realize the advantages and or need for a short shoot. I met with a web designer so soon we will have a bone cave homepage. I'll let you know. Hope everything continues to work out. PS are you planning to go to any of the horror conventions with your products? I'm thinking of doing it.

Yeeeaaahh, hitting up some festivals is DEFINITELY a good idea, I'm going to try to start hitting up as many horror movie conventions as I can. Well, we fired the old 13...she had to go....she could never film and she couldn't film for the next like 2 weeks...soooo had to let her go. But here's the NEW 13...and we've already re-shot the old 13's stuff and we even got some new stuff

Re: The Last Battleground
i like the recasting. Let me know which festivals. I'm mostly riding the east coast.

Re: The Last Battleground
Will do ghattprod! Here's Horrornews.nets review of THE ABORTED! Always interesting reading other peoples thoughts on my flicks! "I've seen shit, and shit this ain't. If you're looking for horror that financially demands you use your imagination at the same time as it refuses to insult your intelligence, you can't go wrong with Down Twisted, and The Aborted is certainly as good a start as any." Re: The Last Battleground
Another The Aborted review! This one from our own Maven! http://thelastblogontheleft.com/page304.html "Just because it's cheap, that doesn't mean it can't be smart." " I never enjoy a low-budget film more than I do a Fernandez flick. From the scampering sounds of the tiny, ill-formed feet to the unholy childish laughter that precedes each attack, I am in love with the fetuses running amok in The Aborted. Is it wrong to say they are cute, even?" So one of the things to notice how the last review said Justin gives one of the best performance in any Sonny movie and this one says the acting isn't as good as the others ones. See how all over the place opinions usually are when it comes to this kind of thing?
