Topic: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

Sorry to borrow the popular "retro rewatch" shtick but it's appropriate.

One of my favorite things about going back and watching old horror flicks I haven't seen for years is spotting someone who's gone on to bigger and better things since.  There are the givens; Holly Hunter and Jason Alexander in The Burning, Kevin Bacon in Friday the 13th, Jennifer Anniston in that damn Leprechaun movie.  But despite it being something we all experience going back and watching older movies, I can't recall there ever actually being a thread dedicated to such pleasant discoveries.

"But Lon, " you say.  "Why do you bring this up, now?  It's Friday night, why aren't you out there making some lucky lady's night?"  Why, I'm glad you asked.

I just finished watching The Hidden.  Cool flick, but I hadn't seen it since it first hit VHS way back in '88.  So I'm watching it, and all of a sudden, who pops up in a bit role?  Why, it's none other than DANNY TREJO, given a whole two seconds of screen time before promptly being blown away.  The second I saw him I literally said aloud, "Fuckin' cool!" lol

At any rate, I thought it'd be a cool idea for a new sticky thread (hint, hint, Meh/mods) -- pleasant discoveries you've made rewatching older flicks you haven't seen for a while.  Please feel free to share.

The Hidden is an excellent Scifi flick. I haven't seen it in years so I dont remember Trejo. I'll have to hunt down a copy and give it another watch.

BTW I still watch Leprechaun just to stare at Jennifer Anniston's amazing ass. Damn, she was fine as fuck back then.

Because I literally have to drive over a mountain just to get to the nearest gas station.  If I want to hit a social scene, you're looking at about an hour's drive.  That's gas money, that's paying for admission, that's having to pay for two drinks minimum (despite the fact I don't drink).  That's money, which I have very little of.  But internent porn -- that's free.  And I don't have to tell my hand I'll still respect it in the morning.

Dammit.  Sidetracked my own topic!

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

I really enjoyed seeing John Goodman in C.H.U.D. I love that guy cool

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

Well, one that comes to mind to me is one that I recently watched, that I just vaguely remember watching way back when, and that's Tales from the Darkside: The Movie. Three of my favorite actors are in that one, all in the same segment Lot 249, Steve Buscemi, Christian Slater and Julianne Moore, so that was cool. Also a great appearance by Debbie Harry as well as a ten year old Matthew Lawrence.

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

Burnt Offerings.......remember seeing this when I was young.  Still delivers, mostly.  The hearse driver makes the show.  Ending kinda goes wacky but what are ya going to do? I had forgotten  Burgess Meredith (cut me Mick himself) was in this along with Oliver (you sold me queer giraffes) Reed.

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

One of the many reasons why Daphs rox!

I was watching House 2 last night.  Hadn't seen it since around '90 or so.  Was pleasantly surprised to see Kane Hodder in a costume party scene as a partygoer who gets tossed around by the big cave man guy -- who, equally surprisingly, I recognized as Buzzsaw from The Running Man.

It was a Sunday night two-fer!  Though different than the kind I usually have to pay for.

I just watched The Sentinal...   wow, I remember watching this when I was very young. Although most of my memories of the movie had faded ,( I mostly remembered the gross old man with the fat chicks and the guy with the tongue hanging out ) anyways  it was nice to tie them all together and get the storyline together.

Is this referance to a young Robert England in "Eaten Alive"?

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

the Watcher in the woods and return to oz

Return to oz isn't classified a horror movie, but when you watch it as a kid its terrifying lol

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

"Night of the Demons"...  Now that the remake is coming out, I thought I'd re-watch the original since it's been about a year (watch it every Halloween).

Yeah I watched it again the other day. I've been watching old Gialli the last week, mostly ones with Edwige Fenech: Case of the Bloody Iris
Strip Naked for Your Killer
All the Colors of the Dark.

Tonight it might be 'Forbidden Photos of a Woman Above Suspicion'. No Edwige in it though.

^^Classic!!

A great vampire flick that doesn't get much attention: Vamp!

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

How about Vamp? The original "from Dusk Till Dawn." Stripper vampires.

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

The Witchmaker. Atmospheric occultic film set in the swampy bayou. It looks good in widescreen, if you can find it.

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

Demonic Toys! big_smile
I loved this one. Cheesy goodness.

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

Was watching Cherry Falls the other night when I was pleasantly surprised to see an actor named Michael Weston as one of the supporting characters.

Weston has appeared in numerous TV shows lately, most notably as Jake on Six Feet Under, as the quirky private investigator and Cuddy's recently dumped boyfriend Lucas on House, and as a manic conspiracy theorist in the third season of Burn Notice -- one of the best episodes in a season full of great ones (and, oddly enough, the actor's name is the same as the lead character played by Jeff Donovan).

Re: Retro Rewatch Pleasant Discoveries

Cherry Falls was way better than it had any right to be LOL
