Topic: Rank The Saw Series

Rank all seven movies of the Saw series in your own personal order of preference. As you can guess by my username, I'm a fan of the series and think it gets too much hate. It was fun waiting for a new sequel every year since 2005 up to 2010, and of the 2000s-era Horror series this is easily my favorite. I rank them as:

Saw II
Saw
Saw VI
Saw V
Saw IV
Saw VII/3D
Saw III

Re: Rank The Saw Series

2, 1, 4, 3, 7, 6, 5.

I do kinda miss Saw. Halloween isn't quite the same.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I have only seen the first 4,

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I've only seen 1, 2, and I think the last one in their entirety. Others I have seen in bits and pieces for the FX work. The biggest problem I have with SAW (save the 1st) is the writing. The stories are convoluted to the point of absurdity, and the acting from anyone not screaming in death, is bush-league. Those two cops (I dunno.. the storylines exactly) were horrible in the later episodes.

Nevertheless... the traps and FX work are spectacular. And the fact that every trap (made in Canada, I might add) is a real, fully functional, and capable of doing exactly what it's made to do, make the kills all the more top drawer. I wish they do an expo of just the traps.

Saw VII

But I love them all.

I felt the same way about the parent trap movies.

I know. I had a lot of fun anticipating a new sequel every October since 2005.

Saw
Saw V
Saw III
Saw II
Saw VI
Saw IV
Saw VII

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I've watched em all, and really the only one that stands out to me is the first one, and that is not because it was a great film, but rather because I appreciate that it was an indie and what went into creating the film.  The rest are really all the same, each trying to outdo the previous installment in tems of gore and kills, and each becoming more convoluted and implausible as they go.  So one, then all of the rest lumped together.

This is exactly how I would rank them also, oddly enough.

Though I kinda agree with Alien and Bun, the story kinda got to messy as they went along. They didn't do a terrible job tying the story together but it all started to feel like a crime thriller or a tv crime drama than a horror me the deeper they got into it.

I seen the first one in the theater and was completely blown away. An experience that I will remember for a long time I hope. In fact I also seen the all of them in theaters except the last two, even though part V was one of the best since the original (mainly because of the end) I had pretty much lost interest in them.

Me too.

The last few kinda run together for me now.  Don't know how many I missed.  I got so lost with what was even going on.  The last one is an instant on Flix, and I got it waiting.

Almost exactly my thought s though i do think the first Saw film was a great film.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

The story definitely got a lot more intricate as the series went on. Sometimes it's kinda hard to think the first movie is in the same series since so many of the sequels are so different from it.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I don't want to answer that. Then you'll ask me if I want to play a game and I'll wake up in a dim-lit room with spikes everywhere. sad

In all seriousness, how might you rank them all?

Re: Rank The Saw Series

Just saw the most recent Saw.  Really doesn't stick out more than the last few.  Not horrible movie, I'm just so lost with whatever is even happening anymore.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

Of all the so called "Torture Porn" flicks including the Hostel and Saw series I personally rate the first Saw as the only example of great filmmaking. All the other films are poor, close to imitations. In regards to the Saw series the second one was good but i think the third film is a bad example of filmmaking. It looks like to me that the other films in the series just got gorier and gorier for the sake of it disguised by a ever complex plot and tie to the previous film and i have no interest in watching them. They came to  represent the modern cash hungry hollywood machine that constantly spews out sequels and remakes and thats a shame because as I say the first Saw film is a fine piece of indie filmmaking, a fact that is somewhat lost due to the many formulaically gory sequels.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I don't really consider the first two Saw movies to be torture films at all. It's arguably not until the third the series really started going overboard with the level of gore and torture, which remained a staple since then.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

Also, what's everyone's favorite trap in the series? I actually rather like the furnace in Saw II, it's simple but effective and I like how that whole sequence is done in the film.

Having gone through the series again, the Needle Pit may be my new favorite, now. That trap is beyond nasty.

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I prefer the bathroom scene from the first film. It was drawn out. gave them time to think about it
before any amputatimg was done.

but as fas as traps I preferred the reverse bear trap

Re: Rank The Saw Series

I like the bathroom from the first movie too, I like that it's an actual puzzle that requires skill to solve and bypass, rather than a simple killing trap.
