Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Feb 26 - Not a movie, but I did watch the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

Feb 27 - Mientras duermes aka Sleep Tight (2011) - Another excelent Spanish thriller from Jaume Balaguero (REC, REC2, Darkness and The Nameless).  You wake day after day to the comfort and security of your home. But how safe is it really?  This one will definitely creep out women, or anyone for that matter, who might live alone.  Nicely done.  4/5.  First Watch

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 7-

Gargoyles (1972)-  Made for TV movie 5/10 First Watch Rented

Gargoyles have to wait every 600 hundred years to hatch their young but Humans seem to ruin everything...An Anthropologist and his daughter go to investigate claims of living monsters in the Arizona Desert.
I think it was Lon that suggested I watch this one, so thanks Lon smile  I not sure why I liked this one, it is pretty cheesy and the acting is not so great.  But I do love a good rubber suited monster movie...The Gargoyles reminded me of Sleestaks!  LOL big_smile   Oh and for added the scene where the white police car is chasing the bikers,  the white police car is actually two cars...A Chevy Impala and A Ford LTD?  Only a car geek like me would notice that huh? smile

Demons of the Mind (1972)-   6/10 Hammer Thriller  First Watch  DVD

A movie about a man that imprisons his son and daughter because he is afraid they are crazy.  It kind of reminded me of Flowers in the Attic because there is incest involved.  The girl does manage to escape briefly and has a romance with a local boy but is captured and taken back to the castle to be imprisoned again.  Unfortunately my husband decided to talk through most of it, so I think I need to watch it again, because I was a little confused when all the killings started smile

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

I remember see Gargoyles, but it was so long ago I can't remember if I liked it or not.  Probably, since, like DG, I loves me some rubber-suited monsters.  big_smile

Don't think I've seen Demons of the Mind.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Feb 28 - Evidence (2011) - I have been waiting to see this one, for what has it been, almost a year now, ever since I saw the first teaser trailer for it, and I happy to say that I was not disappointed in the least.  It is reminiscent of films like The Blair Witch Project, REC and perhaps even Invasion (2005) and the Roost, but it is still very original and creative, which sets it apart from most found footage films of late.  There is great tension, atmosphere and action throughout, with believable performances by the cast.  And just like the tagline, "It is not what you think," it had me on the edge of my seat and guessing right through the roll of the credits.  It might not appeal to viewers who need to have everything in a movie neatly tied up in a bow by its end, but I loved it  and thought that it was definitely one of the best found footage films that I have seen in a long time.  4.5/5.  First Watch

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Wow that one sounds good Alien.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 8-

Carrie (1976)- 8/10 Rewatch  Netflix

I remember watching Carrie when I was very young with Friends at a sleepover.  I remember thinking her Mother looked like a Witch and scared the crap out of me.  I always felt sorry for Carrie.  She had no friends and her mother was a religious freak that didn't love her.  She seems so sad....  I also remember the end with the hand popping out... I think Me and my friends jumped about 10 feet off the couch...good times!
Carrie belongs in a select group of films that probably made me into the Horror Geek that I am today...Friday the 13th, Jaws, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, and Carrie were some of the first Horror movies I watched as a kid  smile

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Feb 29 - The Woman in Black (2012), my version cut out before the end, so I will hold off rating until I get a new copy.  First Watch

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 9-  A double feature from Midnight Movies...

Murders in the Rue Morgue (1971)- 7/10 First Watch DVD

A nice mystery to figure out starring Jason Robards.  The dream sequences are the best part, they are beautifully shot, creepy, and colorful.

Cry of the Banshee- 6/10 First Watch DVD

Here we find Vincent Price playing a sort of Witchfinder again.  He decides to rid his land of a coven of Witches.  Unfortunately he messes with the wrong Chick.  She exacts her revenge on him and his whole family by invoking a Banshee to do her dirty work.  The costumes were really beautiful but Unfortunately Vincent Price is not at his best here...

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 10-

My signed copy of Gun Town showed up today!  Woo-Hoo!   Thanks Lee  big_smile

Gun Town- 7/10 First Watch (actually watched it twice...once in the morning and then with my Husband and Son in the afternoon)  DVD

I really enjoyed the Western theme of Gun Town.  The Villain played by Ace was the best Character by far but I also liked his evil wife played by Morgan Graham.
Ace... you make a pretty sexy Serial Killer  smile   Please more blood and guts in part 2 would be good and some vintage cars.   Oh and my Husband wants a Chevy Blazer now...Thanks!

Human Centipede 1- 7/10 First Watch  Netflix

I actually liked this one...The actor that played the Doctor was very good.  He was like a modern day Frankenstein,  all he needs is a Gothic Castle.

Human Centipede 2- 5/10 First Watch  Netflix

Everything that was only hinted at and not shown in the first movie was shown in the second movie.  It focuses on a deranged man that is obsessed about the First movie. ( yes, a movie within a movie.)  Martin was abused by his Father and has a verbally abussive Mother, he reminded me of Joe Spinell's character in Maniac.  I think it would have been more interesting to switch between Blk|Wht and Colour Cinematography to show that you are in Martin's head.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Mar 2 - Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile (1974) - Based on the Ed Gein case and pretty meh.  I prefer the movie Ed Gein (2000) over this one.  2.5/5.  First Watch

Urban Explorer (2011) - Four students hire a guide to take them on a tour of the tunnels under Berlin where they get more than they bargained for.  I dig movies about the underground, so of course I had to check this one out.  It is reminiscent of movies like Raw Meat, Creep and Stag Night, but it seemed to be missing something.  I would have liked to see more done with the back story.  Just okay 3/5.  First Watch

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 11-

Reeker (2005)- 5/10 First Watch  Netflix

Typical Slasher with a Smelly Robotic Zombie smile  It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either...just meh

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 12-

Pulse (2006)- 3/10 First watch  Netflix

Another winner from Netflx ***heavy sarcasm there***

Was that supposed to be scary?  I found it boring and it had a stupid storyline.  I gave it a 3 only because Ian Somerhalder was nice eye candy smile

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Mar 3 - Motel Hell (1980) - It has been quite some time since I last watched this one, and I realized that there was a lot that I had forgotten about in the film.  Still a fun watch.  3.5/5.  Rewatch

Dial: Help (1988) - A Ruggero Deodato film that features killer phones.  Silly, is the best word I can think of to describe it.  2/5.  First Watch

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Rue Morgue- agree
Cry of Banshee, no see
Gun Town- awful awful movie.  Worst movie ever!  -200/10!  lol
(Can't wait to see if Acey reads this)
Centipede 1- 2/10
Centipede 2- No see
Pulse- I give it a 6/10.  You should try watching the Japanese version, much better.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

I started to watch 'Demons of the Mind' the other night.........but fell asleep! lol

I'll have to give it another go! smile

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Alien- I haven't seen Motel Hell yet, owned the DVD for a long time though

Azz- If you didn't like the first Centipede, you will hate the second one.

Twisted- Demons of the mind is a little slow, but I liked it.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 13-

Dream Home (2010)- 7/10 First Watch  Netflix

An Asian movie about a woman that will go to any length to get her dream home.  Sort of a Psychological Slasher.

The Thing (1982)-  10/10 Too many to count watch smile  Netflix

Just felt like watching it again today...

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

I loves Dream Home! Interesting editing style and insanely violent.

I liked Reeker also, if for nothing else because they tried something different and there was some good gore.

I actually liked Pulse also, definitely wasn't great but I have also seen the asian original and thought it was sooo damn dull. I actually liked the 2006 version. I would say 6/10

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

What?  You have never watched Motel Hell DG?  I expect to see that one on you list here soon.  wink

And I agree Chainsaw, I always liked Reeker just because it was so different from most of the stuff that is out there.  Plus, I thought the twist was pretty cool.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Oops, missed Reeker.  Kind of an odd one- 6/10.
Dream Home- no see
The Thing- top 5 all-time

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Day 14-

Daughters of Darkness (1971)- 8/10 First Watch DVD

A young newlywed couple stops in a Grand Hotel on their Honeymoon.  They meet a Vampire Countess who becomes infatuated with them and sets out to seduce them.  The Lead Actress is so beautiful and quite a good actor that she is mesmerizing to watch.  The Hotel is quite beautiful as the backdrop as well.  No real scares here, but I enjoyed watching it.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Daughters of Darkness- I know I've seen it, but I can't remember it.  Phht!

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Mar 6 - The Awakening (2011) - A fantastic ghost story set in post WWI England.  Beautifully shot, with a great location and terrific atmosphere.  It is not heavy on the paranormal action but is instead driven by story and believable characters.  Still there are some good scares and It did manage to give me the chills on a couple of occasions.  I even found myself getting teary eyed.  Definitely reminded me of The Sxith Sense and The Orphanage, but of course from a much different time period.  4/5.  First Watch.

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

that one sounds good Alien...

Day 15-

Pet Sematary (1989)- 9/10  Rewatch  Netflix

A near perfect Horror movie.  Great atmosphere, Characters, Gory, and  no Hollywood ending.  That sister still freaks me out every time!

Child's Play (1988)- 7/10 Rewatch   Netflix

Chucky is on streaming on Netflix,   so I pushed play smile

Re: DirtyGirl's Horror Movie A Day Challenge

Pet Semetary I'm only going 7/10
Chucky only gets a 5 in my book.
