I got Two Giallos and Zombie Movies in my Collection. Both Fulci - New York ripper and the Beyond. Particularly love the Arrow packaging.

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

as in blu ray?

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

^
Yep hopefully Blu-ray and DVD. My Macbook cant play Blu-Rays.

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

now Zombi is the italian name for Dawn of the Dead...Zombie was Fulci's "zombi 2" that's already on Blu Ray here in America, came last year and stunning quality!

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

I am new to giallos and I haven't seen many compared to dirtygirls impressive collection! So far I've seen tenebre, the bird with the crystal plumage, deep red (my fave so far) and phenomena. I've got some fulci on my list and I've really been enjoying Argento and his very stylish imagery. Definately a pleasant find thanks to hm.ca. I'm looking forward to terror at the opera.

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

My copy of Tenebre and Four Flies on Grey Velvet has gone missing...
Alas, I'm rocking the Media Blasters Zombi 2 but I gotta know, is the Blu Ray of Zombi 2 worth getting?

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

Like UltraViolence, I'm new to all of the giallos, too. So far I've seen Argento's Deep Red, Suspiria, Tenebrae, & the more recent Do You Like Hitchcock? Today I also watched one of Lucio's giallos, The Lizard In A Woman's Skin.

I'm sooooo enjoying myself watching all these great movies. Looking forward to expanding on the giallo genre later on.

Favorite of the Fulci flicks (as far as the ones I've seen go), even more than ZOMBIE, is a tie between The Beyond and Don't Torture A Duckling.

By the way, DG, AWESOME collection!!

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

I'm more of an Italian Zombie fan than giallos stuff, i love the trash ones like Zombie Creeping Flesh aka Hell of the Living Dead & The Zombie Dead aka Burial Ground as much as the classic Fulci movies.

Hell of the Living Dead is another one that gets a lot of talk. It seems like one of those 'like it or hate it' movies.

And I gotta admit, the trailer looks pretty fuggin' good fun.

I didn't know it was a Bruno Mattei movie until I watched that trailer. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I really enjoy Zombi 3. One of my guilty pleasures.

Nope, it's a straight up person-munching demon flick.  Directed by Bava and co-written by Argento.

The Beyond is straight up funky.  Deservedly on many Top Ten lists.

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

What I think really stands out in Zombi 2 is the Practical effects. This is most impressive when the zombie come out of the ground. Gruesome goodness. I also just remembered I have Bay of Blood by Mario Bava which prefaced by 10 years, and to a degree influenced American 80's slasher films. Not watched it yet though. I believe in fact, as i learned in the Going To Pieces doc there is a almost identical killing scene in Friday The 13th Part 2 to one in Bay of Blood.

I love this film. So original in concept and just a fun movie. The scene is completely identical and you'll know it when you see it. I think there is another scene that was lifted from it.

Yes, that scene is almost identical.  Really loved the ending of this movie, it comes as a bit of a shock.  Some of the shots are very interesting, like when we see a woman through a set of shelves.

Re: Italian Giallos and Zombies...

Bava is the Italian master! so many classics.
