Sherman Hemsley,perhaps best known for George Jefferson in TV's The Jeffersons,died today at the age of 74.

Damn. What a shame. He also did a few episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that I LOVED! He was great on that as well..

The Jeffersons was one of my favorite shows as a kid and it was all because of Sherman Hemsley. In some ways it's a shame the he never shook off the role and it basically pigeonholed him for the duration of his career, but then not every actor gets a signature character they're known the world over for, especially one which started off as a bit character on another show (All in the Family).
Thanks for the laughs, Sherman. RIP.
