Nifty story- the US just launched 2 new satellites into the Van Allen radiation belts.

They should help measure and explore space weather, solar flares, etc.

I just ran into a neat website that has illustrations of spacecraft from all kinds of different shows/movies.  Like Star Trek, Star Wars, Bab 5, Battlestar Galactica, etc.  The cool thing is that they are all drawn to scale, so you can see and compare the various ships.

I know, this is for the nerdy, but I am nerdy and I am a monkey.  Top that!  (Hmm, might have been better if I was a big rig driver.  Oh well.)

Awesome...This was the last place I was expecting to end up having discussions about Quantum Physics and the nature of the universe but giddy up.

As a contribution, Consider Georg Cantor's work on defining infinity.  Basically, if you were to draw a circle, you could draw an infinite number of axes which all cross through the centre of the circle. However, continue each line beyond the circle and eventually a space will form between each line, thus allowing you to draw more lines...more than infinity...and Infinity of infinities...the concept starts to warp your mind the deeper you dig into it.

Also, physicists are currently trying to prove whether or not we are living in a Computer Simulation.

Heh heh, another science freak in our midst.  Monkey likes.  As to the concept of multiple infinities, there is actual notation to show the level of infinity (yeah, there is math for that).  I'd have to dig out one of my books or Wiki it.

The computer simulation question goes way back to philosophers wondering if we are just the product of someone's dream.  Fascinating idea on how would you prove that we are not in a definitive reality?  Remember the end of Men in Black with the universes in marbles within other universes?  Run with that, and then we come up with- what is reality?

Saw a show the other day about the Bermuda Triangle.  They tried to sink a sailboat but blowing bubbles up at it from below (the methane explosion theory), but basically nothing happened.  They got it to sink once they loaded it with 5000 pounds of bricks.   Then they worked on planes- could lightning ignite a fuel tank.  Oh, hell yeah!  I think the show is called "Curiosity," though I could be wrong

I can't wait for the hard science shows to start up again.  big_smile

Yeah I've read a few of his books.  His work in String Theory and one called Physics of the impossible.  I know he had a show with the same title and I guess the show was based on his ideas in the book...it's fun to see him work out the physics of teleportation and forcefields.
