Yea Super 8 came real close to giving me that Goonies feel this last time I watched it. Really the only movie I can think of that has come out in the last 20 years that really tries and almost succeeds and duplicating the feel that E.T. and Close Encounters had.
Super 8, Cabin in the Woods, Prometheus, and Scream 4. Super 8 being my least favorite of the bunch, but at least we are starting to get some good Horror movies that actually pay great homage to films that came out before.
I remember that thread about "what is the next trend in horror" and it appears to be clearly that Mainstream horror is not only remaking, but are also starting to re-create with an original twist, and doing a pretty darn good job of it.
Back on topic though...
If you are in the mood for a great children's adventure, please watch EXPLORERS!
Lost Boys, Monstersquad and Fright Night seem to be the best of the bunch as far as Childrens adventure horror. Explorers isn't really horror though it is directed by Joe Dante and there are a few horror elements.
Stuff being mentioned like Wargames of course isn't horror and falls more under the 80s teen category. We could list great 80s movies for days and days.
Little Monsters comes to mind. I haven't seen that in such a long time I wonder if it is worth a rent.
I'm sure a lot of people here used to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark. I've seen a ton of horror anthologies over the years and Are You Afraid of the Dark actually holds up against some of the best...
