Topic: Dr. Caligari

I guess this is where I should have originally posted this topic. Sorry I have been off forums for many many years and need to get my bearings again.
So here's the deal. My friends are doing a retelling/sequel to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It is going to be called The Asylum of Dr. Caligari. I'm hoping to get some opinions on this from people. I really love the original and the story that my friends have come up with I find interesting so I think they will do a good job.

You should check it out. It is a silent film, but very interesting. If you've ever seen the Rob Zombie video for Living Dead Girl Dr. Caligari is where they got the inspiration from. I love the sets.

My friends will be shooting a short feature for the movie first. Stephanie Gerard and Kelsie Matthews have signed on for the short. Other talent will be featured in the full length movie but has not been confirmed.

Depending on how you go about it, could be good. I like the original, found it to be interesting and visually pleasing.

From the set designs I've seen it looks like they will give the visuals justice. The original was just so different looking. I loved it. It's going to be like a retelling/remake/sequel. I know that sounds strange lol. They calling it 'horror noir'

Yeah I gotcha. It'd be interesting to see what you can do with the sets (I've seen the monochrome and multicolored filtered version and both styles really change the mood of the movie)

I know they are using a Red Epic 5k digital camera which is what was used in the Amazing Spiderman. Not entirely sure what that means yet, but I guess it' pretty cool. I will definitely keep you updated as things progress.

I would be interested in seeing this.  I assume your friends are serious about the film, not just slap-dashing something out.  Nifty project.  Tell them "good luck" from the monkey horde.

Nope this has been a dream of my friends for many, many years.  That's why I'm so supportive of it. I know how much it means to them. Plus I would like to see some better horror flicks. I'm tired of the found footage or just gore films. I want the sets and the lighting  and the whole mood set up going on. Of course I like that in any movie, not just horror.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is one of the all time classics as far as horror films go. So i would definitely check out a re-telling or sequel, but there's a lot too live upto. Making it a silent movie again is a good start. I look forward to seeing the set design.

Caligari is a classic in both Horror and German Expressionism.  I'm a huge fan of both and so any homage paid to the genres is welcome here.

They have finished the 30 minute short. Last I heard they are trying to finish the post production. A full length feature is scheduled to shoot next year. I have some other pics I need to post. Been slackin lately lol.
