Topic: Original V.S. Remake: Doug Bukowski

So, this thread is for the people who have watched Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes (1977) and Alexandre Aja's The Hills Have Eyes (2006).

In both of the versions, we have a same main protagonist: DOUG BUKOWSKI!!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!

So these are the Dougs:

So, I want to ask your opinion about who's better, much more bad-ass, brave and all the thing that combine to make a good daddy and husband out of him. Or simply the most awesome out of them two.


Me myself, I think the Doug of Aja is tha best! Thank god they didn't force him to sport that frickin' 70's mustache. So , what about you?

I personally prefer Alex Aja's Doug to be honest, he just seems like a much more believeable person and overall Aaron Stanford does a better job as him. He wrestles with the situations he is in too, but maybe this is a bit biased coming from a guy that actually prefers the remake as a whole over the original.

I always enjoyed Craven's original but didn't understand all the hype about it being one of his best flicks.  But like SHS, I actually do prefer the remake which, while bloodier and more brutal, is also better acted, better directed and better shot.  It has its faults, sure, but overall I think it's a better film.

I would also go with the remake Doug. Like Lon said, IMO the remake is better all the way around.

I didn't like the remake. I found it too violent while the original was just right. I'm a gorehound I love lots of blood and guts and violence but the remake just left too much of nasty taste in my mouth for me to enjoy it properly while the original 2 were just right.

For me the gore looks very watery and tasty. I found the dialogues nice too. The modern vision keeps make me want to see this movie again and again. Haven't watch the sequel yet but hope that it's better than Wes Craven's

The original bored me; I'm not a big fan of Craven's work. The remake had a lot more tension and seemed like a better movie all-round.

Although I like the original Hills Have Eyes much better then the remake, I liked Aja's version of Doug alot more.
