And yes I know that The Edvard-Thing and Split-Face are just "same same" but yeah I'm talking about the non-human form.
I pick Split-Face.

I would have rather u the same thing with MUCH superior Carpenter's version cause a lot of these creatures are poor CGI wannabe beasts of those in Carpenters. They look bad and act bad aswell, lumbering around stupidly chasing and munching up the casts mostly poorly developed characters (Can this be argued as Generic?) as though they were in a Scooby Doo episode. The only one that looks quite interesting and original is the "Bug Thing", which i believe is mostly,if not all practical FX. I remember, and correct me if im wrong that the films FX team created lots of amazing practical FX whose impact was destroyed in the film cause the studio forced them to put CGI over them. Now im not saying CGI is necessarily bad (just look at the Dinosaurs in Jurassic park. a great combination of effective animatronics and very impressive computer generated effects) – its just that the CGI that I witnessed when watching this overall distinctly average film was not to my eye done well at all. It looked faked and therefore completely ruined any prospect of suspense or suspended belief. Hell I even found the monster in 1951's The Thing From Another World's creature more interesting than anything in last years prequel. So Im gonna 'mutate' my answer and choose my fav monster from Carpenters version which is........

The 'Norris monster' - Spider Head - Described in The Thing videogame as 'Scuttlers'

On a side note I love this scene in Carpenter's The Thing which is more effective and chilling than any 'monster moment' from the prequel, especially the crappy Grigg's Thing which looked SO fake and just plain goofy cause of the obvious and plastic, shiny looking CGI. The noise the 'Thing' makes in the 82 version (See below) is to me utterly terrifying when combined with the guys haunting expression.

^^ I actually loved them. But I love Rob Bottin's creatures more.

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

But removing the Rob Bottin monsters, Vasquez, what is your favorite one in the film?

If u mean by the prequel i say the Bug - Thing
Carpenters version - Spider/Head  - Thing

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

^^ Well me for The Original Carpenter Classic I go for... (damn they are all ugly) Palmer-Thing.

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

Also K.X.N. Punk I thought you said you're a weird mutha****** but you liked this movie. What was the creature that you liked the most? If you ever come here.

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

Splitface RULES! I'll tell you what though my least favorite is Sander THING? I don't know WTF they were thinking with that? You cannot follow Splitface with that? They should've did more work on that one? Friggen blew the film in the last 10 minutes. Had a great film up to SanderTHING reveal, then they lost it. To bad. I'm glad we got another don't get me wrong, but damn?

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

^^ Sander-Thing reminds me of the disappointing last boss from the video game sequel to the remake. Which ALSO reminds of the last boss from I think it's GoW 2. Never played those games before. Only see playthrough though. tongue

And also welcome Mac! This might be off topic LOL.

Ya know the roar of The Edvard-Thing makes at the moment of it's picture that I posted above was one of the scariest monster roar I heard. The roars of The Bennings-Thing and The Norris-Thing were bone-chilling but The Edvard-Thing's was just too damn scary!

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

Terrifying I must say.

I found most of the noises the creatures make just way 2 piercing. The sound design in this aspect was dire. It was overly loud and excessively piercing including in the scenes with the Edvard-Thing. I suppose that suited the stupid lumbering nature of the prequels badly CGi'd creatures though and the whole big budget approach of the film. In Short its a big, lumbering, noisy, CGI and excessive mess with no time for characterisation of its Norwegian characters or any competent build up of suspense or atmosphere. This excerpt from a review i previously read totally sums up my feelings. Original full review by Jeremy Kirk entitled 'The Thing' is a Loud Imitation That Doesn't Work'

"It doesn't matter, though, this sense that the paranoia has been lost, because the director doesn't seem concerned with that. Instead, much of The Thing, in fact, the entire back half, relies on quick editing, fast action, and noise, lots and lots of noise that bleeds into every scene, setup, and aftermath of the film. This new version of The Thing is a noisy film, and not just in regards to the piercing, audible sounds the creature makes. From the number of characters, to the layout of the set - anything but geographically identifiable, something else failed from the 1982 version - to the crutch of CGI van Heijningen rests on from beginning to end, The Thing is busy with a discordance that permeates the theater"

The sound design in Carpenters version is just one masterful aspect combined with other expertly managed components and compared to the prequel, just works. Carpenter recognized that it doesn't have to piercingly loud, short and excessive to be effective.

Re: What is your favorite Thing Beast in The Thing (2011)?

^^Yeah I feel like it also lacked the suspense from the remake. It doesn't even seem "scary" as the 1982 film, but I still liked it.
