Topic: Betamax Horror

Ok, so i cant be the only guy who collects Betamax horror!...

I recently came upon the motherload of a score from a guy who owned a porn store. I got a bunch of Unicorn video stuff as well as all the classics BRAND NEW UNOPENED such as evil dead, all of Romero's zombie movies, Basket case, Hills have eyes, last house on the left, all the nightmare on elm streets, Werewolves on wheels, videodrome, Hellraiser 1,2, Dolls, return of the living dead 1,2,  etc.

Im just curious does anyone have any idea of what beta tapes are worth? I have a pretty firm understanding of the VHS market but i literally know nothing about the prices of beta tapes mostly because they are impossible to find. For example I have never seen evil dead, hills have eyes, Werewolves on wheels, etc. for sale on beta anywhere.

Has anybody had any experience selling beta tapes?

I have no desire to sell any tapes but I am just curious due to the wild variance in what I have personally seen and been offered. For example a guy offered me $150 for one of the Unopened Unicorn betas (that i paid a dollar for) i have but at the same time i see nothing online to compare it to cause there literally are none for sale).

Anybody's experiences selling betas would be nice to hear.

Re: Betamax Horror

I've always thought a good way to get a gauge on the value of stuff like this is to check on Ebay and see what buyers are offering for them.  I just did a quick search for Betamax there and, well, they don't go for much.  So if you've got a guy offering you a Benjamin and a half for one Betamax tape, my advice is to jump all over it.

However, the hardcore horror audience has a much greater percentage of collectors than the general movie audience does, so you might just be in luck.  I'd recommend placing ads on Craigslist, Ebay and Amazon if you're really interested in selling.

Yeah haha i really thought about it but i think id much rather have it. I have had people wanting to buy the tapes from other forums as well, but i dont think i could sell. Just trying to get a feel of what things go for, how rare they are (even though all beta is pretty rare) etc. I cant find any of the movies I have on beta but almost my entire vhs collection (quite extensive) is pretty much available on ebay, amazon, etc, craigslist, etc.

Re: Betamax Horror

No, I understand completely.  I very recently started selling my own VHS tapes I've spent years collecting.  If you do decide to start selling, though, the unfortunate truth is that very likely, only the most obsessive of collectors will find value in them. hmm
