Topic: Worst horror film franchises.

What is the worst horror film franchises you can think of? I think of stuffs like The Children Of The Corn, Hellraiser , The Return of The Living Dead and Saw series, only the first film of them was ultra good.
Worse are Jason's killing spree franchise, I didn't liked the best (first one) film very much but it was  good. Other stuffs such as Boogeyman and Wrong Turn. And especially Wes's The Hills Have Eyes (until Aja revived the first film) and Toby's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Probably the worst that I can imagine is Puppet Master. Seriously Lon I can't believe when you were a teen you liked the totally ****** up first film. Charles Band, please, just... go help your brother with his awesome comedy horror music OK?
Such stuffs like Amityville needs to be abandonned, Hostel too the second one was just sick, well what do ya know... they also ****** my gang of vampires decades later after the original Joel "Schoemaker" Schumacher's flick. Return of The Living Dead also sucked with only the first one was good. Hahaha and they come up with a good way to ruin The Exorcist also. So... guys, what do you think are the worst horror franchises? (also don't forget Resident Evil)

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

The franchises that have become the worst offenders to me are and for the love of god should just stop, in some instances for their own good.

1. Saw. Amazing 1st film, Good second but 3 onwards relied on explicit gore to keep the franchise going. Perhaps the series continuation of sequels is the best representation of hollywoods simplistic and view of us horror fans and its generic approach to horror cinema. The sequels are the antithesis of original and smart horror, something we need more of from Americas output.

2. Paranormal Activity

3. Wrong Turn. Enough of Hillbilly Horror already.

4. Resident Evil. A Decent first film but a series that now relies on throwing in character names from the games to keep the fans coming back for more whilst consisting of pretty but generic action scene after action scene

5. Final Destination. A once original and fresh concept now done to death. If only death could catch up with the hollywood producers who think the sequels up

6. Hostel. Gives Horror a bad name

Just think of all the original horror that could be produced with the amount of money wasted on the various unnecessary sequels of these franchises!

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

I'll name the ones I think are bad straight out, no beating around the bush

1) Paranormal Activity - There is nothing good about this franchise, nothing.

2) Final Destination - They have been milking this franchise as much as they can. I'm shocked they still go into the cinema and not straight to DVD release.

3) Saw - Weak torture-porn, and everything else is bad.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Oh, c'mon man, Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave was a fine film!  lol

Tough question.

Hellraiser 1, 2, & 4 were good.
Saw 1 & 2 were good.
Children of the Corn had 1 good film.
Never much cared for the Wrong Turns, but I've only seen the 1st two.
The first 3 Puppet Masters were decent, but I haven't seen the last 6 or so.
Res Evil 1 & 2 were good enough.
Boogeyman 1 I liked.
I only liked Final Destination 1 & 2.
Then you can get into the F13th, Elm Street, Halloween series.

I'm torn between the Saws, which started ret-conning all over the place; Final Destinations, which after #2 was just the same ol' same ol'; and the Fridays which totally went haywire later on.  I had to leave out the Puppet Masters & Children of the Corn since I haven't seen them all.

I shall ruminate some more upon this.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

I want Final Destination to stop too because there's no more ideas and characters, they've gone to prequel already.
Paranormal Activity was too good to stop for me but I think it should stop now after the fourth because there's no way there could be that much ghost. Loved their posters thou..l
Elm Street series already stopped, wasn't too bad.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Most of the franchises  mentioned at the very least have a great first movie. So it makes more of a failed sequels rather than an entire franchise. As for a complete franchise, I'll go with a Scream. It all has a feel of a half serious parody than a horror. Shure they have cute girls but how anyone can be scared is beyond me

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

I left out Scream for a few reasons. I liked 1, 3, & 4. (2 felt like it was trying too hard.)  It brought back mainstream horror in the early 90s, and killed off an A-list actress in the first 5 minutes.  I never found them scary, but nice popcorn films.  Like you said, it was satirizing former horror tropes the whole time.

So I never really thought of the series as a serious horror franchise.  More of a comedy/horror thing.  I wouldn't argue with your choice, though.  But Rose McGowen, nom nom nom.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Those Anaconda movies. Syfy is always generating low budget sequels with porn stars in it, but I'll admit I watch them.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

^^ I loved the first two. The third and the fourth are only just some CGI *****

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Also Romero, please stop.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Oh man, if we start going into Asylum Studios sequels, we'll be here for a decade.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Who could forget those MegaShark or whatever the heck their called giant shark movies. I wonder what will be next, "Megashark vs MegaDonkey"?

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Sharktapus, 2-Headed Shark, Giant Piranha, Boa vs. Python 1/2/3, Dinocroc vs. Giant Alligator, Piranathon (piranha mixed with python), oh hell, I give up...

You can read their list here (IMDB link).

Just saw that they made Titanic 2.  Missed that one.  Classy.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

^^
Go look at Asylum's IMDB link.  We'll wait while you regain consciousness.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

^^ Dunno why you said that but true, Asylim sucked. And why do they continue to make these films even thou they know that they will suck?

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

My least favorite franchise has to be Wrong Turn. I loathed the first film and cannot believe they actually squeezed more out of it.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

^^
It was a joke about how the awfulness of their movies would render you unconscious.

Their business plan is once someone announces a big budget film, they race to make a rip-off as fast as possible to get it in before the big film.  Look at some of their titles-  "Transmorphers," "Snakes on a Train," "2012 Apocalypse," etc.  They get sales/rentals by accident and by selling them to SyFy (and maybe other places).  They really are a joke, but if you make money off it... ?  The creative people and the management people do not always see eye to eye.  If ever.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Paranormal activity. It's just silly how much people buy into it as Being real! A none horror an franchise IMHO.

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

Man, you  guys have been way to harsh on these movies,
There nothing that Bad about Final Destination series at FD 4 was the bad think about it or Pa series is not bad, It fun and silly. it not bad

There are plenty of other series that 10X worse then the ones above

Children of the Corn  (2 Good movies in series)
The Amityville Horror  ( 2 good movies and Yet there 2 more in work)
Leprechaun (1993)
Sometimes They Come Back
The Lost Boys (1987)
From Dusk Till Dawn
Urban Legend

Re: Worst horror film franchises.

I think horror movie franchises jump the shark when they bring the horror character in to space, like Leprechaun and Jason X for example. I mean, imagine if they brought Saw in to space.

*shudders*
