Topic: Top 20 1980's horror
What does your top 20 look like? I'm going to try to do mine in order. Nightmare on Elm Street The Lost Boys The Thing Ghostbusters BeetleJuice Evil Dead 2 The Burbs Night of the Creeps The Monster Squad The Blob Gremlins Day of the Dead Poltergeist The Gate Pumpkinhead The Howling Creepshow Child's Play Prince of Darkness Nightmare on Elm Street 3 A top 20 pretty much sums up the ones I REALLY love. I could probably think of about 10 more I could fit in at any time like Night of the Comet, AWIL, The Fly, Fright Night, Creepshow, Friday the 13th 4. Then there are plenty like The Hitcher, They Live, all the Stephen King adaptations, that I like quite a bit but don't love. Interested to see everyone's top 20 I'm sure it will be somewhat versatile.

Not to be all anal retentive and everything (though I can't help it because I'm well, anal retantive ) but you realize Zombie 2 is from '79, right...? Don't hate me.

Not to pry but are Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice even "Horror" films?

It was made in the year 1979, it was released in the USA on July 18 1980. Close enough to being a 80's horror film for me.

Re: Top 20 1980's horror
Horrorkid -- The Fog was '79, as well. Why do you guys do this to me? You know I'm going to say something.

Wasn't it released in 80?
Re: Top 20 1980's horror
^ Man I believe Lon had a long discussion about this with someone way back. Here we go again

Re: Top 20 1980's horror
No. It was released in '79, but no reviews were printed for a month or two later, in early '80. There was a whole conversation about that between myself and Chainsaw a few months back. It almost came to blows. Luckily he realized I was right and thus saved himself from a hella-fied ass kicking. *** Sus -- originally released in '79; didn't make it to the states 'til '80. Splitting hairs, I know, but again, I blame my anal retentiveness. Damn thing's got me by the short and curlies. *** Kidding!

As you can see above, this time I kept it short.

Re: Top 20 1980's horror
oh man, this could be fun. I have to think about this. So many GREAT horror flicks from the 80s. So many!
Re: Top 20 1980's horror
80s was a great decade. I suppose Beatlejuice can slot into the Horror-Comedy sub genre. The Shining has to be there for me. Freaked me out no end!

Re: Top 20 1980's horror
man I keep finding all these great ones I've missed! The 80's were such a great decade for horror's evolution.
Re: Top 20 1980's horror
It is definitely unreal how many fun horror movies came out of the 80s^ Someone asked if Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters are horror. I would definitely say Beetlejuice is no question horror, Ghostbusters is a little more in question but still, it should count. Everybodies lists are so great. Definitely going to have to check out Street Trash from Lon's list. Seeing Intruder on Suspiria's list makes me want to give that one another go. I also really liked Stage Fright.
Re: Top 20 1980's horror
They may not be top-20 material but here are a few lesser known 80s horror flicks worth checking out (IMO) but which almost never seem to come up in conversation... The Outing The Offspring (aka From A Whisper to a Scream) Twice Dead Night of the Comet Mark of Cain Blood Frenzy The Brain Roktober Blood
Re: Top 20 1980's horror
^ Id put Deadly Blessing in that group perhaps aswell.
