Topic: Horror Images Burnt Into Your Mind
What are the images/sequences you have witnessed in horror films that have been burnt into ur mind, ones that particularly stand out. Try not to state the film to avoid spoilers for people. Here is a example of mine.
This image really sticks with me cause its literally like using a garbage truck to take out the 'human trash'. Evokes very clinical and cold feelings, Kinda reminds me of the footage u see of people being shoved into mass graves by diggers or similar, for example in Nazi concentration camps. The very fact that real life, not so dissimilar footage as I mentioned exists (though the use of a garbage truck I have never seen) only makes it more striking.

Re: Horror Images Burnt Into Your Mind

The movement of the snake is completely unrealistic (snakes swim in a tighter "s" pattern), but a genius-level use of breaking the rules to create the right effect. We see the size of the snakes, we're shown the snakes can be literally right beside the characters and still go unnoticed despite their size and we get a sense of dramatic tension - all in that one shot. It's not gory and it's not disturbing, but it's always stuck with me as the right way to tell the audience a whole lot in very few frames.

^^ Loved that film when I was a kid, still now LOLZ. I think Nicholas Gonzales's death was cool and scary . And Johnny Messner was awesome in the movie. The footage of Morris Chestnut's death have since remained in my head when I watched it as a kid with y family in theatre.

From "The Ring", this entire sequence scared the piss outta me as a kid and still has an effect on me today. Reason being that this scene broke the fourth wall in horror. When creepy or disturbing imagery appears on screen (very much like your usual horror flick), it remains there, but as soon as Samara crawled out of the television, I become so unsettled and unsafe as another viewer witnessing this... on a television! This scene cuts deeply on a psychological level.
Say what you want about "The Village", but there's no denying it had some truly frightening imagery. This scene stood out for me the most. It may have been the fact that I was still a kid when I saw this, but it was the first film to have me on edge from fear. The whole sequence with the creatures invading the village was fantastic, and the part where Bryce Dallas Howard holds out her hand while the creature approaches her from the darkness was the base for several nightmares afterwards. It's my favorite scene from the film.

I couldn't find a picture of it, but that scene in Signs where Merill chops off the aliens finger under the door with the knife, as well as the scene where the alien is spotted at the birthday party on TV. I remember those scenes scaring me, and made me think about what would happen if a real alien invasion occured.

Re: Horror Images Burnt Into Your Mind
^^ Salem's Lot- hell yeah that entire movie freaked me out.
Re: Horror Images Burnt Into Your Mind
I thought the movie was really shitty, one of the poorest I've ever seen, but one scene in Megan Is Missing stuck in my head and makes me feel sick every time I think about it. It's when he opens the barrel and there's a body in there looking up, and he tells the girl to get in. The most revolting scene I've ever seen, I hate it. Not going to post the pic because it makes me feel ill. No other scene has ever made me feel like that

You and I hate that movie equally. We also both agree how horrible (in a good horror way) that scene was.

I know no one will agree with this one, but its one that sticks with me. Its not exactly this shot, but what happened right around it (couldn't find a pic of that):

Re: Horror Images Burnt Into Your Mind
Good call Primal Nightmare. I wouldn't have thought of those, but they both fit for me too. I ended up hating The Village, but before the reveal there were some pretty freaky scenes. FMG - So many people here were scared by that scene including me! Az - Yeah, Paranormal Activity, and the image in particular that stuck with me was when the Demon was blowing on Katie's hair. That picture thing happened right around it, so that's what I put. The second was Blair Witch. My next one is really nerdy. I wasn't able to find an image from the movie, but I do have the comics so that is what this is from. I won't say the movie, but IMHO its one of the greatest atmospheric horror movies ever. This scene was about seeing something coming at you from a ways off.

What movie is that from? Really would like to know, so I could watch it sometime.

Yeah, this image from Megan is Missing is utterly horrendous, it stuck in my craw for days afterwards and rarely has such an image upset me as much:
For me it can't really be encapsulated into an image, rather a scene. In Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer there is a truly unsettling home invasion sequence that has wormed its way into my psyche forevermore. I was about ten when I first had the ultimate displeasure of seeing it and it's scarred me ever since. There is something so so awful about the camcorder episode in that film, something beyond the scope of what any ten year old should be watching and something beyond just Otis & Henry's degradation and murder of the nuclear family. It's such an upsetting scene and really shows the impulse that drives these men to kill. The director, McNaughton really put his finger on the pulse and made us, the viewer, the voyeur in that bloody scene and portrayed a palpable sense of two maniacs whose actions are driven by an emptiness of spirit and motivated by merely killing for kicks. I've never before or since seen that done as shockingly and effectively as in Henrry. Sorry for the essay! And sorry for haunting HQ with that terrible scene from Megan is Missing again and ruining all the therapy she went through after watching that barrel scene and for putting her back at square one all over again!!! Sorry hun!
