I was expecting something a bit different, but that ended up being a good thing, because I really enjoyed the film.  A fantastic sophmore effort from the Soska sisters and one of the best movies I have seen from this last year.  4/5.

Kill Theory (2009)

I Thought the trailer made this movie look really good with a lot action it.

This movie 3 couples going to cabin for the weekend and soon are in danger when some stranger Kills one their friends and tell to Kill there Friends, If no one kills they will die.

I think the plot for the movie was decent twist on normal cabin in the woods movies There had some decent actors, who don't over act their scenes.

There were decent Bloodly moment in this movie, they could have been more bloody for slasher movie.

I felt this movie a bit too much like Donkey Punch that came year before, Which I didn't really like at all, (Not seen it  that movie for while, May need to re-watch that, I didn't really like that at the time)

I didn't like how the movie ended at all, I thought it decent twist on normal slasher movie but don't think there anything that really stood out their for this movie to get notice.

4/5 out of 10

A Little Bit Zombie (2012)

This movie of with mosquito flying and there stink a Zombie, Mean while a guy, his best friend, his sister, and his bride-to-be (also a "bridezilla") come to the Cabin to have Stag night.

Craig get bitten by that mosquito  zombie, Some he slowly start act a bit diffrent then normal.

This movie had me laughing a few times , with some silly gags like Farts and Funny vomits scenes.

I one the worst Chick fight scenes but I do think it was meant to be bad as I did find it funny.

There were some bloody moment in this movie at start and in the last few scenes, The rest of the movie wasn't meant bloody moment.

As Craig is only a bit of a Zombie,I think the acting this movie is very campy and in fits in perfectly with the rest of the movie.

During the credits  there some funny pictures and small scene at the very end, which I thought was nice funny touch to this to campy fun movie.

it not as good the big names like Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Braindead, this movie is more on the level of Fido or Wasting away.

I going 7 out of 10 really good fun!

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

American Mary

A recent horror film that has been given a lot praise over the past few months is American Mary, the film was directed and wrote both by Jen and Sylvia Soska (also known as the Soska Sisters) who also done the film Dead Hooker in a Trunk back in 2009 which received very mixed reviews. But does this effort succeed, or fall flat?

American Mary follows the story of surgery student Mary Mason, a student that has a lot of potential in actually becoming a surgeon. Mary switches up turkeys in her apartment in her spare time, practicing as much as she can to be even better than she is. After needing money and not having enough, she decides to go to a strip club to audition for a job. But the job she ends up with at the end of the night, isn’t the one she thought she would have. Mary ends up as a black-market surgeon, to switch up victims of the mob that run the strip club. Quickly after her first job at the club, Mary is contacted by Beatress (Tristan Risk) who wants Mary to perform body modification on her, to fulfill her dream of becoming a living doll true. Mary ends up going down a path of twisted revenge and black market jobs.

From the start it’s very clear that the Soska Sisters have thought up an original and interesting plot, with a likeable character like Mary Mason played by Katharine Isabelle who has brilliant character progression. She turns from a nice student who is trying her best to a revenge driven monster by the end. Isabelle puts in a stunning performance as Mary, I don’t think anyone else could of played the role better.

But it’s not all good for American Mary, when the movie starts to get really good and interesting, there always seems to be some scenes that stop its ‘flow’. Many of these scenes involve Billy Barker, the owner/boss of the strip club that Mary works for. In the movie it’s clear that Billy likes Mary, but the way the film depicts these emotions is extremely bad. The scenes involve Mary as a stripper and dancing around on stage half-naked, pouring blood on herself, etc. It wouldn’t bother me if these scenes didn’t drag on for what seemed forever. They go on too long, and these type of scenes reappear later on in the film too in different ways. Billy’s emotions could of been portrayed differently and more effectively than just have Mary on-stage half-naked dancing. It also seemed like a cheap move to please male viewers too, considering they drag on too long and rarely serve a purpose at all. Yes, it could be said that since it is Billy’s imagination it’s what he wants and that is Mary, but I still think it could of been done differently or just left out all together.

Another problem that surfaces in American Mary is that as the films goes on, you kind of lose target of who you are suppose to be cheering for, near the end of the film there is no one to be rooting for, to be hoping makes it out all okay. As I said previously Mary does change over time, but that also has a bad side. She changes into a person that you can’t like, her actions are brutal and you can’t find any emotions in her at all.

A reoccurring theme I see in American Mary when I look back at it now is, the film begins really well and then gets progressively worse as it goes on. One problem I found with the ending is that there is a plot-hole sort of, though I will not go into any detail because this is a non-spoiler review, I just have to note that there is an instance where you ask yourself, “Why didn’t x character just do a certain thing?” and it’s a problem, I’ve talked to others who have seen the film and they too told me that they asked themselves the same question.

American Mary is a film with a very original and creative storyline, but riddled with bad ideas and silly decisions. Is the film bad? No, not in the slightest. If you find the movie interesting then you should see it, because there is good aspects. But is the film great? No it’s not either, certain parts of the movie drag out with a plot-hole at the end too take away how great the film could of been.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

The Collector (2008) - Rrwatch, it was even a little better yhan I remeber it. A decent story, an interesti g and mysterous killer and some crazy traps witch lead to some very nice gore f/x. All in all, a solid and well done horror flick. Looking forward to the sequel...hope it delivers.

8/10

American Mary (2011) - A very original plot, and thats really the best thing it has going for it. Its a solid flick, but I felt lime it never fully develops. There was no real climax to me and as original as it was I found myself reminded of "Excision" and even hostel, with the grittyness and the surgical and torture scenes. I liked tbe main character, Mary, and it was pretty well made. I'll give it high marks for that and the originality of it alone. Still, it was ultimately missing something and didnt quite live up to my expectations.

The Tenant (1976)  -  I hadn't seen this in a long time and just rewatched it on the suggestion of the director I'll be working with on the next film I'm doing. We are looking at a similar feel for what we want to do. This is a Roman Polanski film and I think is one of his best. It's a great horror film, psychologically obsessive and claustrophobic. The cinematography is great, the characters really work well and the story unfolds in a way that sucks you in. Not much blood, but definitely makes you think. Worthy of a night in front of the telly! I'd love to see it on a big screen in a theatre though! BTW, you can also see it on Youtube here:

They have made two full movies Vas, one of which garnered a lot of positive response from the festival circuit this last year, the other which has become a bit of a cult film, but I'd say that hardly makes them the hottest thing in horror right now.  American Mary was a really good flick, but I don't think they deserve those accolades just yet.

The Collection (2012) - I liked this one much better than the first one.  Yeah, it is still like a Saw movie with a ridiculous plot and completely implausible traps and situations, but I absolutely loved the ending!  Let's just say that I was cheering and pumping my fists!  3.5/5.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

The Collection (2012) - Just as good as the first, simple but pleasing story line that delivers on exactly what I expected, some very nice gore f/x. Plus they did a nice job with the story by giving just a bit more info about "the collector" and seeing Arkin back was a plus, a good and well acted character. My wife said it best as she was watching through her fingers "its like Saw on steroids". Good times!

8/10

Body Melt (1993) - I would compare this to Street Trash, a far out aussie splatter flick. It takes some time getting going but I rather enjoyed it when it did. A crazy story which follows several different characters and jumps around a lot but it all comes together eventually and has some nice splattery moments! Pretty fun flick!

Scanners 2: The New Order

An even mix of good and bad. The thing that jumps out the most is the lack of Cronenberg's influence; the tone of this movie feels "wrong" for Scanners. It's cheesy, but the movie doesn't actually look that cheap. It's filmed reasonably well, the practical effects are nice, the cast is okay  - though an antagonist scanner is really goofy instead of menacing.

They try to force a connection to the original by mentioning some characters, but it doesn't work, and I'm nearly certain that the tie-in is a big continuity breaker (I feel kind of stupid because I can't remember some details of Scanners even though I watched it just last week).

Anyway, it's silly and fun but feels slightly off.

This is my favorite of them all. Loved the scene where she kills the dude watching Porn wit a broken bottle, her face is just lovely. AND creepy.

Last night I was in an Underworld trip.
Watched them all again. It's the movies I watched the most often. Can't count how many times.
Definitely my favorites movies of all times. I can't find any default in them at all. Just pure very enjoyable perfection. And damn, Kate Beckinsale.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Went and saw MAMA over the weekend and really enjoyed it. The basic story's been told a million times before but it's always fun to see a nice new take on it. Some real creepy fun and great atmosphere! I didn't think it was that scary but love a good ghost story. BTW I asked two people to go and they wouldn't because they said the trailer freaked them out! LOL! I jumped maybe twice. Did like the ending.

I'd say 8/10

I forget, I don't think I posted this, if I did already sorry. But also saw John Dies at the End. I wouldn't rave over it but it was one of the most original flicks I've seen in a while and just loved the utter bizzareness of it! Quirky, weird, wonderful fun! I need to see it again but after it was over the only thing I could think to compare it to would be Buckaroo Bonzai in a way, as far as the wackiness goes.

7/10

BTW I think it's funny how some horror movies get such high praise and hype then when more people begin seeing it and you really start reading reviews turns out they aren't so great. ie American Mary being the latest. I still want to see it but...V/H/S was another I thought was rubbish. Sorry just a little rant. LOL!

Finally, although it's not a horror movie 7 Pyschopaths comes out tomorrow!! Funny and brutally violent! LOVED IT! Can't wait to get it! 9/10 on that one!

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I would say that American Mary is the only film for me that has lived up to the hype for a long time. I cant believe Rolling Stone descried V/H/S as the "Scariest, Rawest Horror Film of the year". They obviously don't watch a lot of horror.
