Topic: Punk Rock Thread

I tried doing a search for a thread to discuss some delicious punk rock but found none.  Sorry if this is a repeat but I couldn't find anything!

Anyone else on here into some good ol' punk rock?  I'm listening to the new Bad Religion album right now, and it's pretty solid.  They still sound the same.  I love these guys for that.  They played a free show in Toronto in the summer and they played like a two hour set.  FOR FREE!  It was amazing.  Stoked to see them again in March when Against Me! opens for them.  I'm really looking forward to seeing Laura Jane Grace head up the band.  I think she's going to kick some major ass.

What are some other bands people are into?  Anyone catch the Refused shows in Toronto in the fall?

Re: Punk Rock Thread

OH MY FREAUCKING DEMON!!!
What a KICK ASS idea for a thread.
Guess I'll always be here. Mwahahaha

So cool. Thanks miss.
Been a true Punker to the bone since 1982.

My favorites are bands from the 80s that's for sure so much memories from that time, my teenage years... big_smile

Saw Bad Religion a bunch of times. LOVE BAD!!!
And I love that they kept the same kinda sound and the same energy.
H3LL, those guys are my age, I sure wouldn't do that again, no way. lol

My top bands:
Distillers, Black Flag, Civet, Drive Blind [band from France 90s], Stiff Little Fingers, The Accüsed, Minor Threat, D.O.A., Dead Kennedys.
Among thousands of others, got an impressive Punk music collection. Hahaha

DRIVE BLIND-FEAR

I love Black Flag because they were always going forward as far as sound and rhythms go and this Drive Blind band are just that. They push it so far that it becomes incredibly good.
Way to go. big_smile

The album it's from Be A Vegetable is the best Punk album of all times with Black Flag's Damaged for me. Yeah, THAT GOOD!!! lol

Love the mix of male/female vocals a whole lot.
And their sound, HOLY DAMN WILD CRAZY H3LL!!! Wow...

TH@NX AGAIN MISS EVELYN!!!
Yay!!! Happy me. smile

Re: Punk Rock Thread

I am much younger than you kXn apparently lol but I don't feel like I missed out on the punk scene at all.  When I was growing up there were enough of us to keep the shows going and the beer flowing.  Most of my friends have since grown out the scene (even the ones I thought would be around forever!) but I seem unable to shake the punk rock bug.

I also love Black Flag!  Henry Rollins is so badass.  He can do no wrong in my books.  Even when he's wearing pink sweat pants (haha Feast!)

Funny you mention the Distillers...I've loved them since I was 16 but for some reason, in the past year I have not been able to take a break from listening to them.  I listen to Sing Sing Death House on a constant rotation.  As well as Operation Ivy.  I don't know.  These 2 bands have just become major players on my itunes again.  Love 'em.

Re: Punk Rock Thread

Ah cool someone that likes the same stuff I do.

Yeah Rollins RULES ALL!!!
I wish I wouldn't have washed since he spit on me back in, mmmm, 85 I think. He rocks. Period. lol

Ever read anything he wrote, even badasser.

I wake up everyday since a good 8-10 months to Oh Serena from Distillers. Best of their songs for me.

Saw them live in Montreal with fucking RANCID, they played their first album, which I bought right away of course. They played this song and it kicked me so hard in the teeth that I splashed all my Jack Daniels on the floor. lol
And they made a cover of Warriors from Blitz a great old UK band. I was hooked. smile

Oh, I'm slamming my head against my keyboard now, damn,   cvvbgn dasydasdu hsgssysf fjd fdsh sosfhfs I FORGOT TO MENTION CRASS which is one of my good all times band I love.
Got EVERYTHING from them, even the singles and that's a whole damn lot. I'm addicted to Punk. lol

Operation Ivy are amazing. Energy is so damn great.
The bass holy shit, the bass lines damnit. Way too cool.
And their melodies, killer.

Re: Punk Rock Thread

I'm not a massive fan of the genre or anything, but I do love listening to some punk rock now and then. My favorite bands are The Stooges, Black Flag, The Misfits, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and (I admit) some GG Allin - I don't identify with his anarchist values, but as an individual I find him utterly fascinating.

Re: Punk Rock Thread

^^^
Oh yeah man, GG is an incredible character. How much more Punk than that can you get??? I don't see really.
Even Vicious was less Punk than him. lol

Re: Punk Rock Thread

Well I was schooled in Punk from an early age.  But still, I had to catch up and learn about all the inital bands that started it all.   Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Cro-Mags...all those old guys.  But I came into punk during the Fat Wreck years so my big influences were No use for a name, Satanic Surfers, NoFX, Lagwagon,Thice, Big Wig, Diesel Boi....soooo many bands I can name.  My good friend has a punk radio pod cast and hosts all the euro bands when they come to play ottawa..

Although I have grown, musically...there's no denying the hours and hours of punk rock that has shaped my style.  Always love talking punk.

Re: Punk Rock Thread

No Use's Leche Con Carne is such a great album.
And yeah, good old Fat Wreck, discovered an amazing girl fronted band which I'm a huge fan of girl singers btw on their first compilation, Tilt. Suspended man, what an insanely good song.

One of the well no so recent but earlier than Black Flag's era and that I'm a huge fan is Face To Face. Was happy to see that they got back together. Their new album is so great.

Good Riddance, Propagandhi, Guttermouth, all of these Rock too. So hard. smile

Pulley man I fucking DIG Pulley. I like swedish bands like Refused, Millencollin, Hellacopters and Intensity too.

I like so many it's nuts. lol

Oh man!! BIGWIG!  My e-mail address used to be "girl in the green jacket".  Invitation to Tragedy is such a good album.  And Stay Alseep!  I still listen to them allllll the time as well.  Love Bigwig.

My all-time forever favourite band is New Found Glory.  I know, I know they're not "punk" but they're IMO the best pop punk band ever.  I can't get sick of them.  Ugh so good!

I'm also a huge NoFX fan.  Loved them for ten years now.  Love Operation Ivy, Against Me!, The Misfits, anything Joe Strummer has ever done, the Lawrence Arms, OFF!, Strung Out, The Vandals.

Seriously.  I feel like I've never grown up.  I just want to listen to punk and skate all day big_smile

I finally got to see Good Riddance this past summer since I first started listening to them like 7 years ago!  It was insane.

If 17 year old me could meet me at the age I am now....I think she would be like "wtf.  I thought you were supposed to grow out of this you old hag."

Re: Punk Rock Thread

^^^
Hahaha the teen me would say the same about the ancient me. lol

I saw Strung Out with, oh damn what a show that was, Down By Law and fucking AAANNNTTTIII-FLAAAG!!! Which I dig way too much. By dan of down by Law too. Liked what Dave's done with Dag Nasty more but Down By Law are still good enough for me. I love Lawrence Arms too.

Speaking of Lawrence Arms, reminds me of the Death of Lookout Records a few years back. Man I almost cried. They had so many great bands on that label so it was sad to see them disappear... sad

Re: Punk Rock Thread

Oh man.  I could talk forever about Anti-Flag.  I loved them when I was younger.  I went to a show in Toronto where Anti-Flag headlined and Rise Against and Against Me! opened for them.  That show and the events of that night changed my life forever in a really good way.  Over the years though Anti-Flag has disappointed me.  They used to sing about anarchy and anti-establishment, and then they signed to a major record label and had their songs being played on the radio.  Doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of an "underground network"?  I was at warped tour in I think 2010 (i think) and I went to watch Anti-Flag's set and they were just...so lame. The only song they played that I knew was Die for Your Government.  They played warped tour this past summer and I didn't even go watch their set.

Anyway.  That's my Anti-Flag rant.

I saw on Facebook that The Lawrence Arms are going to release another album!  Exciting!

Re: Punk Rock Thread

I couldn't agree more. Their last ones are not very good. Sad.
But my favorite from them will ALWAYS be Post-War Breakout. Man, what an incredible song it's nuts. Sp much emotions in this. Just the way Punk should be in my opinion, sounds a bit like what the great Clash was doing. smile

Yeah, saw that Lawrence Arms stuff too. Can't wait to hear it.

There's 2 UK bands that I could listen forever without getting bored, GBH and good old crazy Wattie and The Exploited. I have a huge flag with the mohawk skull on my wall.

And GBH, well, shit, they're GBH. Kick ass band really.

My favorite from them is really this one:

GENERALS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSR7_aR2VhI

Great lyrics too.
"Killing these bastards will sure be a lot of fun, take no prisoners kill them all.......Britain needs you to die for her..."

And I can't talk about the UK without mentioning some of the ex-members from Crass, the awesome Conflict with are so damn good it's nuts.

Re: Punk Rock Thread

I have seen it!  I really enjoyed it.  I loved Fat Mike before, but seeing him with his daughter took it to a whole new level.  SO adorable!
And Lars and his kid are so adorable as well.  When he says that shit about "how to clear out a park" hahahaha I laughed so hard.  It's so good!

Re: Punk Rock Thread

Hahaha indeed.
The dude singer from I don't remember what band that lost his kid stuff made me cry like a baby.

Re: Punk Rock Thread

I can't say I've spent a lot of time listening to punk, but back in the early 90s I was way into The Exploited.  They were punk, right? tongue

Re: Punk Rock Thread

^^^
Hahaha a bit yes. 50 + years old Wattie screams like he never stopped. These guys are amazing me. Imagine the strenght and energy it'd take 'em, not kids anymore, physical isn't what it was. These dudes and dudettes that keep up doing shows like them are my idols. big_smile
