I just watched The Midnight Meat Train. I gotta say it was a rather enjoyable movie. Nothing totally mind blowing, but a good story, and some decent gore. I like how the main character slowly becomes more unhinged and it also had a pretty satisfying ending. Vinnie Jones plays an awesome serial killer. It came with a few cool interviews with Clive Barker too as bonus material.

What did you think about the very striking visual style. I thought it looked like one of the best horror movies, visually wise I have seen from the 2000's. In fact i think it is a bit of a overlooked gem, albiet not perfect one in my opinion.

Im a Meat Train fan, its one the exceptions were cgi blood and gore actually works, probably because its so pver the top and used to enhance the visual style of the film. I agree, an often overlooked gem.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

100 Tears - love the extreme gore, but everything else about the movie sucked.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Hellraiser

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I have The Call of Cthulu on Netflix to finish.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Watched Amber Alert last night.  Hated it.  Took me two nights to watch the damn thing, what a waste of time.  Just got Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, gonna watch that tonight!

This is a truly fantastic movie. It evokes the feeling of the expressionist horror of the 20's exquisitely, which consequently fits Lovecraft's writing perfectly. It is silent horror made as good as it was in it's heyday.

I'm a Barker fan I've read maybe all his novels (still waiting for the scarlet gospels, damn it!) and his short storys books of blood where this one came from.
It was an awesome view to see it in film. Plus it was great to see Ted Raimi in one of his classic performances once again! But I wont spoil it here...

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Hmm there was some good and bad about the visuals. I REALLY like the clean chrome sterile feeling throughout the movie, but some of the CGed violence and blood looked cheap. That could because I watching it on Blu-ray, sometimes stuff like that is less noticeable in theatres or in lower res. I liked what they were going for though.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I have the DVD but hey maybe blu-ray is a bad thing for some horror films. it shows it in too much detail that would normally be obscured to the viewer

Just finished ABCs of Death with Golem.  That was definitely an odd film.

Hahaha Definitely the best word to use. That's why I loved it so much. big_smile

Rewatched the fantastic Coppola's BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA.
What a wondeful performance from just damn everybody in this. The cinematography, effects, lightning are incredibly cool.
And well, Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, H3LL add Neo, Sid Vicious and Hannibal to that and you're in for quite a ride. lol
A classic for me.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I just watched a sleazefest from 1977
The Last House On Dead End Street

what I think this film is, is about a bunch of acid heads trying to make a movie. Now after a few trips and they finally straighten out from their buzz they decide to overdub it with whatever they want.
The dubbing is crazy one time you can tell the guy says fuck you but thats not what the dubbing says lol plus I'm sure theres only one male and one female doing the dubbing for all the characters prob on acid again!
This is bad but almost in a good way. but nah not really, but if you dig 70s sleaze shit movies you might get a kick outof it.

I'm really liking the style. Very dreamlike.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Years ago, I remember being afraid to watch Last House on Dead End Street after all I'd heard about it being a super-putrid rip-off of stuff like Snuff and Last House on the Left.  But when I watched it, two things surprised me about it:

1. It was obvious the filmmakers must have been high while making it (and if you've ever listened to the DVD commentary, you know this to be completely true -- in fact, almost an understatement lol ).  And...

2.  It's boring as hell.  There are a couple juicy moments here and there (the deer foot in the dude's mouth, for instance) but otherwise, yeesh, what a friggin' drag...

It's definitely one for lovers of low quality trash but for anyone else, move along, there's nothing to see here.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I just watch The House of the Devil earlier tonight. I really liked it. It had some great dialog and the acting was pretty good. It has a slow build up, but the climax of this movie is well worth the wait. It was a cool throw back to the 70's horror flicks, and with a soundtrack to suit it, but with a certain feeling of realism that makes it stand out.

@Lon
^^Added to watchlist out of curiosity.

They have Jack's Back on Netflix! Very excited about that!

I just DL'ed that flick week before last and have been saving it for when I have a night to watch it along with the Michael Caine 2-part TV movie Jack the Ripper.  Haven't seen it since it first hit VHS back in '88 and I remember liking it quite a bit.  There was a time when James Spader was the shit, and he does some excellent work in that flick as I recall.

The ludicrous title makes the flick sound a lot cheaper than it actually is; more folks should give it a look.  Incidentally, and I'm sure others know this but what the hell, the flick was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Jack the Ripper's reign of terror in Whitechapel.

SMASH CUT 2009 rewatch
Man I love canadian Horror.
Especially when they're made with great actors.
Sasha Grey proves she learned how to act in front of a camera during her now gone Porno years and Hess is just as he always is, brilliant.
Crazy freaucked up story "aboot" lol a director that wanna make the best Horror Gore movie and uses real body parts from his film team. A detective comes up and tries to find the responsible of these murders. He hires Sasha which becomes the main star of his picture.

I just dig this kinda stuff. Oh yeah, I admit, as you certainly already know that I'm in a passionate love with Sasha hottie babe. big_smile
Top score without a doubt.
