Well, there's natural humor (which grows from character and situation) and there's forced humor (lazy jokes at the expense of plausability and character). Dumb and Dumber had natural humor. It grew from the insipid characters and situations they found themselves in. Ace Ventura was forced humor. A one-note character spewing endless, clumsy jokes to make up for a lack of real character and story. I love the first kind of humor. I can only tolerate the second kind in small doses.
