Topic: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

I just saw this DVD at a friend's house this last weekend. It's called "In the Shadow," and is this odd indie art house horror film with a small part with Danny Trejo, the guy in Machete. It's about this healer living in the Caribbean, who is haunted by this dark shadowy creature. According to the DVD, it's his "curse" for messing with mother nature. He meets this American filmmaker and they start to fall for each other, until she figures out this guy has some seriously dark "sh*t" going on in his life.

Anyhow, the editing was just nuts, in a good way. When that shadow creature appeared, the editing was really experimental. But it was more than just being a horror film. The photography is really gorgeous. It made me want to visit the island where they shot it. I can't think of many horror films I've scene that care as much as this one does about how the film was shot.

Danny Trejo plays this hermit living in an old lighthouse.

I have never heard of this film but the person I saw it with said it showed at a festival she went to and she knows the filmmakers. She got the DVD from them. I guess they just released it on their website. So, since I'd recommend it and I think it's good to support indy films, I'll put the site here:

www.intheshadowmovie.com

The story is really out there and I would have to watch it again to catch everything going on. It makes you think, so I wouldn't watch it if you are tired. Have a cup of coffee if you see it!

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

I bet it's really obscure, huh?

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

I just haven't heard about it before.

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

Oddly enough it doesn't exactly appear on IMDB.com, a movie called In the Blood, which has Danny Trejo and takes place in the Carribean, but everything else seems different.

The preview made it look interesting.

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

^^^ It's on IMDB, it just has two entries with different years ('11 and '12).

Incidentally -- saw it.  Never mentioned having done so because with few exceptions, I try to only start threads on movies that I think others might actually like. lol

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

I.e. Avoid like the plague?

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

IMO, yeah.  Of course such obscure mediocrities always have their fans, and I don't begrudge them their tastes (lord knows mine often run contrary to the norm) but it's not something at all that I personally would recommend.

I need to feed on the flesh of the unwise.

^^
There is something mesmerizing about that.

Edit- Just a thought.  Perhaps making a gif backwards?

Edit 2- Backwards porn would look really weird.

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

^^^ Go to youtube and look up "Iron Man 3 Extended Look."  The first thirty seconds are Robert Downey Jr...giving you an extended look. lol

Backwards gif, eh?  Challenge: Accepted.

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

Dramatic Hamster... Downey?  Heh.
Bring on the gif magic, oh Loud One.

Where did you see In the Shadow, LoudLon?

Generally, we never want to know anything about Lon.  He's Lovecraftian.

Seems like something that shouldn't really matter. Why has it not been released or something?

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

Check the first post- it's on the web.

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

Yeah, so then who cares?

The film has only been out for the general public for about two and a half weeks, with no records of downloads/purchases by anyone in Kentucky. It has not shown at any festivals in that region of the country, nor submitted to any festivals in that area, so screeners would have been nearly impossible to acquire. Most reputable festivals destroy unaccepted screeners after the final submission decision has been made, and archive for their own keeping (not the public) the screeners accepted for inclusion into festivals.

The film is only downloadable via the filmmakers' website, and password protected on Vimeo, so we are curious as to how Lon was able to see the film if he did not have access to it. It says either something about 1) piracy (which is in fact flattering, but doesn't help the fimmakers' producers recoup investment or 2) the individual making the comment on the film's merit in fact did not see the film.

Did you PM Lon?  Take it to the source, not on a general board.

And really, we would help you out on your financial side.  We have film makers here that we give money to, freely.

edit- we also have a policy of never posting torrent, or things like that, links here.

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

You're obviously involved with the production (you say "we" are curious -- and if this is true, and you are part of the production, we don't appreciate the subterfuge in starting this thread as someone who isn't and who just happened to see the DVD at a friend's house), so I'm going to refrain from revealing my source.

Nice try, though.

So... Lon, some Justified tonight?

Re: Obscure "pretty" indie-horror with Danny Trejo

Hell yep!  Anxious to see how Raylan taking down the fake cop shakes out.

Oh, and check your PMs. smile
