Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

Mwahaha I've posted very few but 2 of them made people react a lot. Suspiria and The Loved Ones. lol

Is Joy Ride 2 a slasher???

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

No, I'd put I saw the devil in the same catagory as I spit on your grave. High body count with 1 single killer yes, but the motivation is revenge or rape revenge. When I think of slasher I think of a unnamed killer, little to no motive other than just being your garden variety nut job and a varied or creative way of killing. As there are 2 killers in the long run in I saw the devil it doesn't quite fit.

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

I also loved I Saw The Devil and I agree it's not a slasher.

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

@ Bassi -- yeah, personally I think Identity fits comfortably into the slasher genre.  It may be a psychological thriller at heart, but it plays so much like a slasher flick it ain't even funny.

Not that they are the ultimate authorities, but IMDB lists the movie as a crime/drama/thriller and the story really revolves around a cop seeking vengence against the serial killer that murdered his fiance.

Just food for thought:  I think for a movie to be considered a slasher, there has to be a high body count done by a single killer.

Not sure about The Loved Ones either because its more of a torture movie than a slasher.  What do you guys think?

Yeah, as much as I liked The Loved Ones, I don't know that it fits the bill either Mary.

Yep.  great movie but it doesn't fit with the others.

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

The Loved Ones definitely isn't slasher for me, but I agree the definitions for slasher are pretty hard to nail down (hehe)

I'm in the camp of single killer (barring a sneaky twist) who kills multiple victims, ala Myers in Halloween etc is a slasher film. Rape revenge/'torture porn' (hate that title also) really aren't slashers for me

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

Okay so that makes four to come out so far:

Suspiria
Martyrs
I Saw the Devil
The Loved Ones

We'll get this all cleaned up for you yet, Mar'. lol

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

We had over 100 anyway tongue

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

104 so minus these 4 ones it levels out.
Damn I should be ashamed of myself. 2 out of 4 are mine. hmm

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

No worries Punk, it's super hard to categorise some movies anyway, there's so much discrepancy between subgenres

Great bloody list though

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

^^^
Yeah I know. Plus everybody have different opinions on what goes into what subgenre too so it's harder.

But yeah damn great list.
More movies to watch.
H3LL I'll watch Horror 'til I die if I wanna see all the ones I want to.

But that's very fine for me. lol

Don't feel bad Punk,  they are really good movies.  We are just trying to clean up the list.

I had to categorize all the movies into subgenres when I was taking care of morguespace a while back.  It's hard to label movies because sometimes they cross over into several subgenres!

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

Here it is....

That is an amazing list!  Well done.

Oh don't worry, I won't feel bad for something like this. It takes me a whole lot more. big_smile
And yeah, I understand how crazy it might have been to sort things out for the Morguespace.

But THIS  list and the other one truely ROCK LIKE H3LL. Good job everybody. smile

Now if someone could tell me if Joy Ride 2 is a slasher I'd be happy.

And DirtyGirl, loving the nick on IMDb, ZombieGurl is a great one. smile

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

Damn. I forgot to put down Dark Night of The Scarecrow. A quality made for TV Horror film with a dual and crucial slasher element which contains little blood, and indeed much like TCM 74 utilizes the power of the audiences imagination through subtle use of imagery – this reflects the paranoia of the films victims.

I would call it a supernatural thriller slasher.

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

Why is Inside missing off the list? I haven't seen it. Sounded cool though.

Re: 100 Greatest Slashers of all time.

So there are about 30 movies on there that I haven't seen, so now I'm on a quest to view them all. Love slashers, my favourite sub genre (with Giallos included) by far
