MWAHAHAHA That's a great one. lol

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Too true!

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I go away for a while and everyone starts talking metal....I listen to a ton of music and metal holds a good share of the pie.  Lots of lists up here. there are literally hundreds of bands I listen to so I'll just gloss over.
Mostly I listen to contemporary Metal bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, BTBAM, Isis, Tesseract, Meshuggah, Periphery.
My more personal style when it comes to playing guitar is more of a Rock-Metal Fusion Like Every Time I Die, Red Fang, Mastodon, Black Tusk.
Lots of Canadian bands: Buried Inside, Beneath the Massacre, Ion Dissonnance, Neuraxis, Fuck the Facts.
And thrash of all kinds...From Slayer and Metalica (yeah, they were a thrash band) to current Thrash bands like Toxic Holocaust and Municipal Waste.
Black metal was never my favorite.  Bad gain, bad amps...but I still respect the Classics like Darkthrone, Burzum and Mayhem.
Of course the old Sabbath, Maiden, and Priest..but I don't go for Hair Metal at all.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I'll throw in Freak Kitchen (song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onFPET1BWMA) and seriously, some of their guitar work is insane. I am really getting into them. They are just kind of experimental metal to be honest, but if you listen to that song there, you will know what I mean. Even the solo, that takes so much skill.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

JackBurton, I'm a big fan of Toxic Holocaust and Municipal Waste, great Trash.

And Scavenger, they sound great these Freak Kitchen guys.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

You like them Punk?

Here is another great one by them:

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Oh man W.A.S.P. are great.
Saw them in the 80s and I wouldn't mind seeing them nowadays either.

hostel2006, not a fan of prog at all so it's no.

Devil Driver are amazingly good. Me loves them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypi-QUaezds

I love good Trash that is also very EVIL!!!

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

kXnPunk not a fan of prog either but Phil Anselmo heavily endorses these guys and has even hinted at being there lead singer..
Devil Driver are amazing....Coal Chamber is better

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Ohh interesting.

But still don't like.

I have a very hard opinion for Metal bands.
Like Metallica, anything other than Garage Days and Kill 'Em All is crap to me. Heh.
Same with Sepultura. With Max Cavalera, great, without nope.
And Max's new band Soulfly is atrocious.

So yeah, got strong tastes. lol

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

@Hostel2k6. I've listened to Ghost. Not the new album but the first one.  It's pretty catchy but not really metal. Has a Blue Oyster Cult feel to it and MANY references to satan but I actually find the vocals to be weak.

And by the way, the signer for the band is called Tobias Forge, formerly of the band Repugnant.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Ghost ain't bad. They were getting a lot of press in metal circles recently, I dunno if they live up to the name, but they are a good band.

Anyone familiar with the maestros of Italian horror metal? They take their cues from Sabbath, Goblin and Black Widow.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I've been a metalhead almost as long as I've been a horror fan. Both amount to most of my life.

My taste in metal is pretty much all over the map, though I have a tendancy towards doom. Stuff like My Dying Bride, Evoken, Esoteric, Skepticism, Disembowelment, Mournful Congregation, Paradise Lost, etc.

As for my favourite metal bands in general though it's: Katatonia, Summoning, The Gathering, Emperor, My Dying Bride.

My favourite bands of all time list the same, except I add Fields of the Nephilim and put them at the very pinnacle.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Ahhhh man, EMPEROR!!!
Big fan of them. Saw them live a few years back and it was just INSANE!!!

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

NonEuclidean you must check Warning, heavy depressing doom.

Punk I love Celtic Frost (the first 3 anyway) and Hellhammer rocks too. Triumph of Death is a black metal masterpiece.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

^^^
The 3 first Celtic Frost are the only ones I listen too. Don't even know if they have more.
Totaly agree on Triumph Of Death. Fantastic.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Yeah they re-united a couple years back, and released a new album. I didn't overly like it, a little too modern sounding, though they did fuse there style with some doom. And I was lucky enough to see them on that tour, and man did they smash live, even the newer songs sounded immense live. Cold Lake sucks though.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Saw them years back and true, they freaking SMASH live.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Through 3 degrees of separation I got my user name from Celtic Frost.

Celtic Frost recorded To Mega Therion (obviously), Therion (Swedes) named themselves after the Celtic Frost album, Therion released an album called Theli. That said, if you go through a 4th degree it comes from Crowley, Celtic Frost got the name from Aleister Crowley, aka The Great Beast, the direct translation of To Mega Therion which is ancient Greek I believe.
