Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Great tidbit of info man, ahhh the stuff we learn here is amazing. big_smile

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I can't seem to remember anything important but I am a well of knowledge when it comes to heavy metal, and to a lesser degree horror films.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

For me it's Punk. Sure know a lot of stuff about Metal but never as much as Punk. There is very few bands I never heard of. Even the most obscure ones from crazy countries. lol

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Top 5 punk bands off the top of your head?

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Distillers, Crass, Black Flag, Misfits, Dead Kennedys...

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I dig 2/5. I love the Misfits and used to listen to Black Flag in high school quite a bit. Distillers ain't bad either, haven't listened to them a lot though. I've honestly only really got into punk mostly recently. I have a Dead Kennedy's album and I hated it when I heard it, but I listened to it years and years ago when the only punk I liked was Black Flag and GBH (weird, eh?).

My top 5:
Agent Orange
Misfits
GBH
Ramones
The Monks

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Hehehe weird indeed.
Man, I dig Agent Orange, saw them live in the 80s. Good old Skate Punk bands like them they had in that time. GBH are one of my favorites too and well The Ramones man, they're the fucking RAMONES!!! lol
Monks are pretty cool too.

My 6th favorite are The Accüsed, crossover Metal Hardcore Splatter Punk with lyrics Horror based and growling vocals. Their guitar riffs are just INSANE!!!

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Good call on the Accused I had to cut them and Gang Green from my list because I forgot the Ramones and The Monks (yeah they're silly but I like'em for it). Good ol' Martha Splatterhead!

Awesome! Glad you like them! I'm also a big fan of doom, but my tastes run closer to the traditional style, Candlemass, Witchfinder General, Black Sabbath etc...

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I kinda feel like Thrash doesn't have anything new to offer anymore sad

Same way I feel about melodic death metal. Those two styles are totally played out to my ears. I keep it old school with both. And actually, as far as melo-death is concerned, the only band in that genre I've ever been able to fully appreciate is At the Gates. Strange because I actually prefer melody in my metal. But then again, I find melo-death is one of the worst genres for band-waggoners. It's thick with them. I got tired of wading through In Flames-wannabe after In Flames-wannabe, and I never liked them to begin with. And they're still all just copying each other, putting out the same stuff, doing the same style vocals, following the same formula.

They are at least technically proficient, so I can give kudos there.

I have a rule that I follow when it comes to my metal, something that occured to me years ago when Myspace was a thing:  I was on a metal forum, and one member posted a vid for some band that he excitedly proclaimed to sound just like Iron Maiden. He was really happy about it.
But it hit me. If I want to hear Iron Maiden, I'll listen to Iron Maiden.
Know what I mean? That's kind of why I'm all over the place with metal. I don't want to hear similar things.

Anyway I'll just end that little rant here.

Oh, kXnPunk, that wasn't necessarily a judgement of the band you posted. They sounded alright. Just got me to thinking a bit.

Interesting thoughts.
I prefer old school too. And these guys are just that. They started ages ago. Mass Murder Messiah are made of ex members from Anonymous which started in the 80s.

But I agree with you if I want to hear something that sounds like Venom, I'll listen to Venom. There's not much stuff these days that are REALLY original seriously. Aside maybe Strapping Young Lad. Nobody sounds like them. They are all alone in their style.

Anyone likes Sludge stuff???

I love these guys.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Yeah I like a few Strapping Young Lad tunes. I have one of their albums somewhere in my collection.

Acid Witch is great! I'm gonna have to give them a good spin next time I get my hands on some leaf.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Yeah you definitely need to listen to them with leaf.
True stoner music. lol

THIS will be extremely cool.
