Re: Asian horror cinema

I remembered one.
The Purple House. With Taiwanese actor Jiro Wang.
IMDb labels it as horror and gives it 3/10 Haven't seen it from beginning to end. But my reason for watching it is Jiro big_smile

Versus is great.  I recommend it.

Re: Asian horror cinema

^Not a big fan of Versus Az, too silly for my tastes. hmm

I watched the Korean torture-porn flick The Butcher (2007) last night and was not impressed.

i totaly agree with the butcher, i got so excited when i finaly got hold of that, was expecting something like hostel but boy what a let down.

Re: Asian horror cinema

^Yeah, at least Hostel had something of a story and attempted to build empathy for its victims, but The Butcher has none of that.  And you don't feel anything for its main star especially after what he does to his own wife.

You guys and a whole lot of other people like it, but the whole fantasy angle kind of tuned me off.  Not a bad film, just didn't float my boat.

That's what I liked about it. Differents folks different views... big_smile

BTW, do you have any recommendations???
I wanna try something different today.

Re: Asian horror cinema

^If you are looking for Asian fare Punk, try Guilty of Romance or Strange Circus.
Or if you don't want to be hungry in two hours try Errors of the Human Body or Resolution. smile

Re: Asian horror cinema

^^^
Thanks aliens. Never seen Resolutions so I might try it later.

Re: Asian horror cinema

A couple more along those lines Punk if you haven't seen them, Entrance and The Yellow Wallpaper.

Re: Asian horror cinema

Just gotta thank you so much for Resolution xenomorph man that I watched earlier. What a blast. Gonna watch the others for sure.

And I've seen entrance but not Yellow Wallpaper. But I will, that's a damn fact!!! lol

Damn I dig this place.

Re: Asian horror cinema

If you want some golden oldies

We're going to eat you (1980) - a hong kong horror comedy , early movie by Tsui Hark. Pretty WTF and hilarious. Cannibalism & martial arts with some blood & gore.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMHF3Di0D2M

Calamity of Snakes (1983) - hilariously cheesy snakefest of a movie. Watch hundreds of snakes and a super giant python that can fly around and attack people. Watch a kung fu master trying to tame that giant python.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfVRfESEACc

Seeding of a ghost (1983) - Crazy Hong kong Cat III horror.
A crazy clip from the movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrfZWTiUA3E

Sweet Home (1989) - Japanese haunted house movie that came out together with the famous  famicon game of the same name "Sweet Home" that was the first inspiration for the survivor horror game genre
A clip from the movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0BR-9FEWIM

Evil Dead Trap (1988) - Cool Japanese slasher horror movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL0xRMXiJck

Some others

Haunted School series aka Gakko no kaidan 1-4 (Japanese kiddie horror but found it fairly entertaining)
Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGBEIIZDIsk

Part 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeXPDlIhzSc

Part 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-JgkFU2r_0

Uzumaki (2000) - pretty bizarre movie based on a manga
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjs1rsrTSjI

Tales of the unusual (2000) - a japanese anthology of 4 tales. However , only one of the tale is horror. "One snowy night" about plane crash survivors trapped on a snowy mountain is very good , atmospheric and pretty creepy for a short story.

Re: Asian horror cinema

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but the 1997 Japanese film, "Cure," is pretty good.
