Re: Best (Made for TV) Horror Movies?

These were already mentioned but here's my list:
Salem's Lot (much better than the remake!)
The Night Stalker
Gargoyles

And I'm not for sure if this was originally a theatrical release but I remember watching The Other on TV years ago. Not horror but more of a thriller.

^^^ Originally had a theatrical release but it came it went with very little fanfare.  It did much better on TV, though, which is also how I first saw it in the late '70s, back when I was just a little nerd.  Haven't seen it since but I recall a scene with a pitchfork hidden in a stack of hay that freaked me out quite a bit back then.

Re: Best (Made for TV) Horror Movies?

Ahhhh. That makes sense.

Yeah, I remember the pitchfork scene which goes to show you shouldn't leave it pointed straight up and covered in hay. It's a good way for someone to get hurt... or muuuuuuurdered.

Masters Of Horror series is awesome (for the most part), but those can't be counted as "movies".

I'd put Carrie (2002) up there. I actually prefer it to the original DePalma flick. Stuck closer to the book.

Re: Best (Made for TV) Horror Movies?

Salem's Lot 1979 is awesome although it is a mini series , not a movie.

I have to say that is a very cool Salem's Lot collage there.

DUEL

DNOTS

and the always forgotten "Fortress" from 1985 with Rachel Ward. This was an Australian horror film for HBO.

The Langoliers.

Currently reading the story in King's "Four Past Midnight" and it's very good. Creepy and has an apocalyptic feel to it. Absolutely dreadful "CGI" at the end, but apart from that it was solid. So much of Stephen King's stuff has been adapted, probably my favourite author.

EDIT: From now on, I'm copying my comments before I hit reply. Hate this glitch!

That's the one we watched on the last Movie Night, right?  I dug it.  Kind of slow here and there but hey, it's Rachel Ward.  Complainers, hit the bricks.

I agree there. It still scares me s***less.

Re: Best (Made for TV) Horror Movies?

A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned - Salem's Lot, Trilogy of Terror, Bad Ronald, Crawlspace, Dark Night of the Scarecrow, The Screaming Woman.

A few others - Scream, Pretty Peggy, She Waits, The Spell, The Initiation of Sarah, Something Evil, The Midnight Hour, Dead Set, Ghostwatch.

There are more, I just can't think of them at the moment.
