Re: Last horror movie you watched?

I just watched The Burning for the first time. It's a slasher flick through and through, with some obvious influence from Halloween (the stalking scenes) and maybe even Friday the 13th. Which normally I am not a huge fan of, with some exceptions, the aforementioned Halloween being one of them, but I absolutely loved this movie. The characters are both lovable and hatable, just the right amount of each so at times you cheering people to die, and others you are having teenage summer flashbacks. That said the characters are not extremely well developed, which is fine for this kind of flick. It has multiple awesome kill scenes and good surprises (raft scene anyone?). And some truly laughable editing mistakes. Overall it's just an enjoyable basic slasher flick.

Zombi 2 (1979) ~ Incredible zombie make up and gore effects, the pacing was great and the directing was really good of Fulci's part. I loved it! - 10/10

City of the Living Dead (1980) ~ Great film, it was very suspenseful and the gore effects were again, done very well. Fulci really created a very eerie and deathly atmosphere that stays throughout the film and is very effective. - 8/10

PORN STAR ZOMBIES [2009]

And that's exactly what this is. XXX movie crew find themselves attacked by Zombies and try to discover why it happens.

Not the best thing but still sexy and enjoyable enough for me.

V/H/S 2

Overall, enjoyed it more than the first. There were no shitty segments like "Tuesday the 17th", but that's not to say that all of the individual tapes in V/H/S 2 were great.

The over arching "Tape 49", similar to the first movie where somebody watches the tapes, was actually pretty poor. No real build up, it didn't make much sense or add to anything really. Just tolerable, but didn't tie everything together.

Continuing with their unique way of filming each segment was the cool trick they did in "Phase I Clinical Trials". Decent to watch, but somewhat lacking in quality. Too many cheap jump scares thrown in, and it didn't "flow" very well. But not a bad intro to the rest, though very inferior to the opening "Amateur Night" of the first movie.

"A Ride in the Park" was a cool idea and entertaining to watch, but it lacked any real impact. We're just thrown right into it. Zombies. Bam, that's it. And the zombies weren't used to their full effect.

"Safe Haven" was definitely the best of the bunch. Nice build up, then it gets crazy. Felt a real sense of dread with it, and it ended very nicely.

"Slumber Party Alien Abduction" was fun, but the aliens weren't very frightening. Still, better than most alien-related horror. Would have benefited with a little more... backstory, build-up, or something. As it stands it came across as Cloverfield-esque with the shaky camera and running. But it was good, and I liked the ending shot.

Though in that last segment I nearly laughed every time the "frightening" alien blaring sound came out, kind of like the tripod noise from War of the Worlds. It sounded, to me, like the start of some bad dance music. I expected beaming lights to illuminate aliens getting down with the beat.

Solid flick, hope they do another. 8/10

Apartment 1303 (2007)

Wow, This one very boring, I am still watching it right now about  hour into,  I did not find movie scary or creepy at all and there far to many fake scarce scenes in this movie.

I give 3 out of 10 at the moment, I don't see it getting any better in the next 10 min

THE YELLOW WALLPAPER [2012]

This was a recommendation from alien which I thank a lot for it because that was a TOTAL BLAST!!! So freaking weird and crazy it's nuts. Reminded me sometimes of Lovercraft which is great because I'm a BIG FAN of him. Juliet Landau is just perfect in this one. Love this girl.

Yup a pretty damn wild ride this was.

Animus - the acting could be better, but for the most part it's a awesome indie slasher. Has plenty of character development (unlike most indie slashers) a awesome setting and some amazing kill scenes. Definitely worth seeing if you're in the mood for a slasher. 8/10

THE AWAKENING [2011]

Wow this piece is freaking BRILLIANT. Rebecca Hall and Dominic West are just fantastic in this weird story. But the best and what hooked me up that much are the visuals. Oh so damn beautiful. Takes a while to start but it's worth the wait really. VERY enjoyable.

loved this film !! it was way better than the first ! total old school special effects and proves you don't need a big budget to make a great horror anthology. From evil ghosts, to a zombie's lifespan from their perspective, to a satanic cult, to a alien abduction..  a good mix of horror genres

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

^Definitely check it out Mistress, it is good old fashioned gothic horror!

Time to catch up.

Stranded (2013) - A weak scifi/horror flick.  2/5.

3 A.M. 3D (2012) - A Thai anthology of 3 stories, reminded me a bit of 4bia2.  2 decent stories and one that was pretty lame.  2.5/5.

L.A. I hate you (2011) - An anthology of 4 interwoven stories that take place in L.A.  3/5.

Frightmare (1974) - Takes a bit to get going, but ended up being a decent flick.  2.5/5.

Ab-normal Beauty (2004) - Again, it is slow going until the ending, then it gets pretty interesting.  3/5.

23:59 (2011) - Just meh, nothing to write home about.  2/5.

Deep in the Woods (2000) - Thanks for the heads up on this one Lon.  And you were right, as bad as it is in some respects, it is also quite well done in others.  3/5.

Ab-normal Beauty is great the ending man, woah. Loved it. smile

DEATH SPA [1988]

Starts with a naked girl in a sauna and she gets burned while a camera watches. Then a detective comes in and tries to undestand what happened. Love old school look like this one has and the story was much better than I thought. And man, girls doing aerobics in spandex are always nice to look at. lol
Not the best at all but still a fun cheesy film.

8/10

Wake Wood - thought it was a fantastic horror flick. Dark, violent, unsettling and beautifully shot. Very underrated IMO 9/10

Return of The Fly ( 1959) lesser sequel to the original, very hokey but fun.

Uhh... if I remember correctly, there was one freaky scene in that involving a big (stupidly fake looking) spider. I'm a terrible arachnophobe; it didn't go down well with me.

Re: Last horror movie you watched?

Just watched The Mill of the Stone Women. Overall it was a good creepy gothic horror movie. The story centers around a wind mill that powers a carousel of wax women; poisoners, murderers and witches, the proprietor of the mill, his daughter and a Hans a young man doing research for the art professor who runs the mill. The movie has some great cinematography and some genuinely unsettling scenes, the finale is stupendous. At times it reminded me of Poe, but even more so a couple other films from around the same period, Eyes Without a Face and I Vampiri. It's an essential watch for fans of European horror.

THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS [1953]

That thing was done one year before Godzilla.
Don't say I don't teach you nothing. big_smile

Creature was made by the exceptional Harryhausen, the king of Monsters, RIP my man and this Dinosaur is just aweFREAKINGDAMNsome.

Classic story, Monster attacks city, people die and all that. But visually fantastic. Ahhh good old school cinema, nothing like it really. big_smile
