Topic: Canadian Horror movies

Canada Day may be coming to an end, but I figured I'd make a post celebrating Canada's tradition of horror cinema. So here's my questions for: What is the best Canadian horror movie? What is the worst Canadian horror movie? And I am actually curious, if anyone knows what the first Canadian horror movie is?

Best:
There's a lot of good ones out there, Black Christmas, The Gate, The Changeling... but for me, perhaps predictably, I have to go with a Cronenberg movie, and I think when it comes down to it my vote would have to be Videodrome. The Brood would come in a tight second.

Worst:
Beyond the Black Rainbow. Just boring, and slow and pointless. Good music though, and the odd cool visual here and there. The Tall Man sucked pretty bad too, but it had some laughability to it.

Re: Canadian Horror movies

Here is a list of many Canadian horror films. (Wiki link)  This list is not exhaustive.

Best films for me:

  • Videodrome

  • Grave Encounters

  • Happy Birthday to Me

  • The Shrine (2010)

  • Severed: Forest of the Dead

Worst:

  • That Which Shall Not Be Named (seriously, neither HQ or I will tell you it's name.  It's that bad and boring.)

  • Bleeders (1997)

  • Grave Encounters 2

  • Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare

Re: Canadian Horror movies

Good call on the Shrine Azzie, I loved that flick but I haven't seen many people mention it.

Re: Canadian Horror movies

I don't have a brain to sell, but I do have a butt I'm looking to get rid off.  Mine has a crack in it. hmm

Re: Canadian Horror movies

Not interested, I have one too and works good unlike my brains.
Keep it for you. lol

Re: Canadian Horror movies

Don't Hobo With A Shotgun and Stakeland count as Canadian horrors - both made by Canadian directors after all.

Re: Canadian Horror movies

^^^
Yes they do and are some more of the numerous Canadian MATERPIECES.

We rock. lol

I agree with you. American Mary, Stakeland and Hobo are my top 3 Canadian horrors of recent times.

Why the relatively little love for Hobo? - Me and Punk cant be the only maniacs who liked it.

Re: Canadian Horror movies

Maybe too low Grindhouse love around.
Rare are the ones that love this genre as much.

I think but what do I know really, opinons are a damn wide range...

Re: Canadian Horror movies

Most of the movies I was going to name have already been listed, except for Curtains, which is a really underrated slasher IMO.
