Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Oh something kick ass for you. No idea if you know them but hey now you do. lol

Rotting Christ-Grandis Spiritus Diavolos

I personaly LOOOVE them.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

^ I agree, Rotting Christ are one of my favorites. They have a very unique sound that I wasn't sure if I liked at first, but I'm so glad I gave them a shot.

My number one favorite band is Nile. I'm feeling too lazy to post videos, but if you've never listened to them, they're death metal combined with traditional Egyptian and middle eastern music. The lyrics have to do with Egyptian Gods, Goddesses, and mythology with a touch of Lovecraft.

Karl Sanders (the guy in my avatar) is the mastermind behind the music. I got to meet him last time I saw Nile live. He's friendly, sweet, and almost childlike in the fact that he gets exited very easily.

I've met their drummer, George Kollias, as well. He's really nice too, and I have a huge crush on him.

I've only seen Nile twice so far, but I'll be seeing them every time they come back to Minnesota.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I saw Nile live in maybe 2005 or 2006 opening for King Diamond, along with Black Dahlia Murder (absolute crap) and Behemoth (quite good). Me and some buddies drove down to Minnesota to see King Diamond. Nile were stellar, I grabbed Karl Sanders solo album and got his signature, really cool dude, strange album though. Just sorta mellow stuff. I don't listen to them often to be honest, but I did enjoy them back in the day. Pretty much the only death metal I listen to these days is Death, early Morbid Angel and Nocturnus, lots of Nocturnus.

Oh and King Diamond was fucking amazing, one of the greatest horror auteurs of our time.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Nile are freaking amazing. Saw them too, what a show.

And Theli, that's because of you I discovered Nocturnus and man, what a sound and band, AMAZING!!!

Glad to be of service!

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Speaking of Morbid Angel, they're another band I enjoy quite a lot. I've heard terrible things about the newest Morbid Angel album, so I've strayed away from that one, but I love all the others.

I saw them live last year and they were pretty good, but by the end of the set David Vincent looked like he was about to pass out. I got a guitar pick, as my friend stomped on a guy's hand to get it for me.

It would have been so cool to see Morbid Angel in the early nineties, but I was still in pre school at the time.

Saw them in the 80s. Mad show, REALLY mad. smile

I'm resurrecting this thread, in the name of the Book of Heavy Metal:

I sign, a contract with the devil.
I tried, for so very long.
I die, to become immortal.
Thats why, I sing this song!

Am I a wannabe?
Have I no dignity?
who gave up all my life to be...

in the Book of Heavy Metal?
in the Book of Heavy Metal!

In life, I have no religion,
besides, the heavy metal Gods!
wear nothing, but black skin-tight leather
my skin, is clad with metal studs!

Am I a wannabe?
Have I no dignity?
I give up all my life to be...

in the Book of Heavy Metal!
in the Book of Heavy Metal!

"some twenty years ago,
the gods put down their feet.
So far in to the ground
that the man of sword 'nor ended.
Could never change your rules upon wich
the very fundament of metal was made!"

-solo-

Read all about it,
in the Book of Heavy Metal!
Read all about it,
in the Metalian!
Read all about it,
in the Book of Heavy Metal!
Read all about it,
just read it!

Don't need no flashy house,
no car or ugly wife.
The only thing I want,
is what my parents don't.
Need no wide screen TV
knowing no honesty,
the only thing I want to be...

To be or not to be...

In the book of heavy metal!

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

I think they maintained quality a little better than their other German compatriots, or really most of the big old school thrash bands. Though, yes they were much more kick ass on the first 4 albums, especially Infernal Overkill and Eternal Devastation and the Sentence of Death EP.

Destructor on the other hand did get better with age, Maximum Destruction was solid but generic thrash, Forever in Leather and Sonic Bullet were a much more interesting and unique blend of speed, thrash and good ol' heavy metal.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

You speak the truth my friend. That's why I only listen to their first 2. Destruction that is. Destructor on the other hand is the opposite. big_smile

But Sacrifice man, with Voivod, they're the best of old times bands our country created.
Damn they were good. Saw them LOTS of times. big_smile

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Yeah...Voivod is a great canadian thrash band.  For Modern Canadian Death metal, I really Like Beneath the Massacre and of course Ion Dissonnance.  Ottawe has bred some surprisingly good Metal acts too.  Fuck the Facts (Chick singer, KxNPunk..) and more of a Doom band, Buried Inside.  Played a show with them during the Suspect Symmetry album days.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

^^^
Yeah I know Fuck The Facts and looove them.

But you played with Buried Inside??? Woooaaahhh man, insanely cool. Great band.

Just discovered Fallen To Flux yesterday and it was a very good one. Nice new \M/etal like stuff.

Check out their free EP right here: http://fallentoflux.bandcamp.com/

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

yeah, well back then, they were still pretty much a local band...the guitarist had the local college radio hardcore show and we called in with requests all the time.  We got to know them through shows and ended up playing on a bill with them.

Re: \M/ETAL Thread

Sweet.
Ahhh man College Radio, best time of my life. Because of my show I got a job as a DJ in the Alternative bar in my home town. MAJOR Slam fests my nights were, Punk and Underground all the way, NOTHING else. Insane Pogoing on the dance floor. Almost every night someone got hurt. Mwahahaha

Great bands. I've seen them both live as well, Sacrifice twice. The first time I Sacrifice was fucking crazy, the crowd was going nuts, tons of stage diving and circle pits. My all time favourite thrash band is Razor though, and they're Canucks too. We have the best thrash as far as I'm concerned.
