I'm definitely certain there is life out there besides us. One thing I'm not certain of is that space traveling aliens will automatically be hostile. I figure that if they're advanced enough to travel interstellar or intergalactic space then they're definitely more advanced than us, which probably means they'd have developed ways to feed themselves and gather materials from planets that don't have any impact on its environment or it's life forms. Mining can be done on uninhabited planets and they can probably grow their own food on their ships. As for us I suspect that when we become interstellar (if we last until then) then we'll be able to stop destroying our own planet cause we'd then have our pick of a whole galaxy full. The point I'm trying to make is that aliens that visit us would be peaceful, at least until we give them a reason to be pissed at us.
Invasion by evil aliens themes are fun and all, but this is one of the few things I can't help but view optimistically.
Alien reactions to us if we ever reach their worlds is another matter entirely.
