Re: My 10 favorite movies EVER

It's hard enough for me to pick a top ten in any particular genre, but an overall top ten?  I'll give it a shot but this list is subject to constant change and/or fluctuation depending on the first ones which come to mind. lol

No particular order:

L.A. Confidential -- one of the greatest crime thrillers of the last fifty years, IMO.  Three intriguing lead characters, a maze of a plot, outstanding performances throughout and a crackerjack finale.  Just an outstanding, mesmerizing film from start to finish.

Seven Samurai -- for my money, one of the top two or three best films ever made.  I could go on for days about this one.

As Good as it Gets -- Jack Nicholson's the biggest asshole on the planet.  Oh, and so is his character in this flick. big_smile

Touch of Evil -- Orson Welles as a disgusting and corrupt border town cop, Janet Leigh menaced by a leather jacket gang and Charlton Heston in brown-face as a Mexican.  What's not to love?

Dawn of the Dead (original, of course) -- like Seven Samurai, I can go on about this flick for days.  Just about the perfect horror movie, IMO

Singles -- yeah, I'm a Generation X'er and this flick, as well as films like Clerks and Reality Bites, captures the feel of the 90s better than any other flick from that period.

The Breakfast Club -- great dialogue, timeless themes, drama and humor.  John Hughes' best flick, IMO.

Jackie Brown -- Django Unchained temporarily replaced it as my favorite QT flick, but JB's returned to the top of the QT hill lol  The best roles and performances of both Pam Grier's and Robert Forster's carreers, IMO.

Dumb and Dumber -- I've seen this flick at least forty or fifty times and it still cracks me up every time I watch it.  It's not Citizen Kane by a long shot, but everything about it clicks for me.  And the Farrelly Brothers have a great ear for soundtracks.

Jackie Chan's Police Story -- JC was so frustrated over his experience making his first US language film, The Protector, that he immediately went back to Hong Kong and showed the previous film's director what a REAL cop-action-thriller is.  Loaded from beginning to end with breathtaking stunts and brutal, lightning-fast martial arts action.  The final ten minutes are an action fan's wet dream.

But again, this list can -- and probably will -- change at any given time. big_smile

Fuck yeah.  While Dark City is probably in my top 3 all time, I am glad to finally see someone give it some love on here.  Fuck all the Matrix lovers, Dark City is the best sci fi film of the 90's.

Also, Shoot Em Up gets overlooked as one of the most genius action films of the last decade

Bravo

Bwahahahaha.  I remember two things from this movie: 1) when the Twins coach throws the ball at the dugout and it bounces back and hits him in the face.  2)  When they are clocking Doc's pitches and they say the radar guns broken and reveal it was bought from Highway Patrol and doesnt pick up anything under 55.  Then Doc asks if he should switch to his off speed stuff.
