Yeah I prefer Aliens too, With Resurrection, these 2 are my favorites of the series. Newt in it is too freaking amazing. Oh AND IT'S CAMERON!!! Why Resurrection??? Winona as an Android, enough said. big_smile

Re: Poltergeist remake?

@Steve - It might have been a processing issue indeed:)) It took me years and many views to realise why "Alien" terrified me the way it did.
@Punk - I've watched "Resurrection" too many times to still be able to recognise its faults. For me it's a very enjoyable watch and the last film that truly belongs to the Alien universe, event though it doesn't rise to the level of the first two. I remember Toad recently pointing out spot on some of the major issues about it and I was really surprised how blind I am regarding this film.

I have always thought the original was very overrated
so I won't be seeing the remake anyway

Tastes vary.  I saw the Poltergeist during its initial run on cable in '82, at the age of 11 or so, and it didn't do anything for me.  And I wasn't even really into horror at that age, aside from the old Universal stuff.  The only part I batted an eye at was when the dude peels off his own face.  The rest of it was just a lot of noise, light and wind machines.  To this day I don't see what's the big deal about that flick.

A piece of advice: don't get bent out of shape whenever someone disses a movie you (quite obviously) love.  One man's trash, etc.

My first time watching it was in '82 on cable as well, except I was 4 and it was the beginning of a life long love affair.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

I still can't believe that film is a 15 cert in the UK
dumb to say the least

Yeah, I agree. It's not so good as some people say. But I like it anyway.

The point is that Poltergeist has one iconic scene and some memorable quotes, and is in everyone's mind.

I'm in favor of film remakes when the original one is a bad movie or no one remembers it, but this is not the case.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

Won't be seeing this cashgrab. From the looks of it, they tried to repaint the original premise with modern predictability and cliches. Poltergeist was very unique, this looks like every other ghost flick of the 2010's.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

I've read a few reviews.  None are favorable.  Shame Sam Raimi wasted his time producing this instead of a new Evil Dead, or maybe an update of Darkman.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

I was mildly interested in this, until the deal-breaker reared it's ugly head...

3D

Nope... I'm out. I will bend and watch a flick post converted to 3D (via nefarious means), but a flick SHOT in 3D? Fuck that. Never... ever ever ever. They ALL look like shit, and I won't give the movie or it's makers my time, let alone my money.

That and the original was a shitty movie. I remember loving it when I was younger. I picked up the BD, watched it again a year ago and came away with this,

Re: Poltergeist remake?

Wow a lot of hate for Poltergeist.

I remember when it came out, everyone and critics were like "This is the movie Amityville should have been."  So in that regard, I guess it was great, but over all I agree.....over rated.  And kind of hokey.  Always thought so.

And no need to remake it now.  And remake it badly to boot.  Nothing in the trailers makes me want to see it.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

Screw those that hate it. IT'LL ROCK FOR ME THAT'S FOR SURE!!! How could it not, and Evil Clown and Ghosts hey...

What the fuck dya guys need really... roll

Re: Poltergeist remake?

Just got back from watching Poltergeist (2015) at the cinema...it was decently entertaining, but it no where near matches the original film. So for those who don't even care for the original Tobe Hooper/Speilberg film...yeah, then probably don't bother with it. lol

It had its perks though...it had a halfway decent cast. The kids were pretty good in it, and not at all annoying (which is always an immense plus). Sam Rockwell is a cool and likable guy, but he doesn't quite make a believable father, at least in my mind. As far as being scary goes...not at all, which is a bit disappointing. Overall, meh. Had its moments though.

^ A good original movie, preferably not a remake. lol

Re: Poltergeist remake?

The original for me was hokey because it was, should we say, a little heavy handed, a tad over the top.

Like the scene when the tree comes in the room and attacks the kid..... like the scene of the rearranged chairs.

So typical 80's.  No subtlety.

But seriously, kXnPunk, I'm looking forward to your review when you see the new one man!!!

I completely agree. Not a fan of the original therefore I couldn't care less about this remake. Wish that Raimi would focus on the Evil Dead franchise.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

Ok, what's your take, why not a fan of the original?

Re: Poltergeist remake?

Yeah that's really strange. yikes

Anyhow I heard mixed opinions so I'll wait to see it to fall in a side or another. But I'm sure I'll love it. When a trailer psych me out the film ALWAYS does so there.

Re: Poltergeist remake?

I'm just soooo burnt out on remakes. Honestly even though the original wasn't the BEST MOST AWESOME HORROR.. I got to see it in the theaters and it still kind of holds a special place in my mind. Will wait to see this when it hits dvd etc. Rather bbq up a nice $15 steak than pay that much to see a remake in the theater. big_smile

Edit: bleh agree with the 3d thing... Just bleh, overdone already. sad

Hahaha I agree to disagree. lol

Re: Poltergeist remake?

The original was great. The remake - crap.

The director don't seemed to understand how to build suspense and horror in a horror movie. Just throwing some special effects in a scene does not make it scary or horror. It's just lame.
If you are doing a remake , add something new , something different but instead , we get a roger corman reproduction.
