Doppelganger

Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, this Japanese psycho-thriller follows Michio Hayasaki (Kôji Yakusho), a scientist employed by Medical Cytech, a mysterious research conglomerate. Obsessed with his latest project -- a "human body chair" complete with sensory-activated artificial limbs -- Michio is in a typically aggravated state when he comes across what he thinks is his doppelganger in a local restaurant.

This doppelganger sighting -- an exact double of someone that is reportedly seen before their imminent death -- is quite unnerving to the young scientist. Before long, however, it becomes an annoyance more than a grim reaper, as the doppelganger version of Michio tries to take over his career and later goes on a murderous rampage.
