I Am Legend Gets Banned

With I Am Legend's release only a meer week away, there is one country who wont be seeing release when it comes out.  The Associated Press reports I Am Legend has been banned in China despite being released throughout Asia in countries such as Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. 

Why did the film get banned in China?  Well lets just say it has nothing to do with controversial subject matter.  Turns out there is a temporary ban on ALL American movies is being enforced in China by the China Film Group.  The ban comes in order to try and increase revenue/interest in China's local film industry.

Will Smith has tried to talk to China Film Group leader Han Sanping about securing a release date in the future, but it is unknown if it will ever find its way to Chinese theaters. 

An anonymous source at the China Film Group denies that such a ban on American movies is being enforced.
