Christmas Charity Reader Updates
Not to long ago I did a post suggesting to you all that this Christmas we should all do some small thing to help those around us in need. Frankly I didnt have the best suggestions since I am not a creative person and tend to do the usual food or clothing donation at my church. Alot of you responded with some great ideas on what to do and I want to share some of those ideas with you all. Here are some of the ideas that you members posted;
1) Sponsor A Family and get them food and gifts for their children. Do this on your own or get your entire office to sponsor a family. Imagine the great Holiday you could give a family if you and 4 or 5 of your friends all put together a few toys, and some food!
2) Donate Toys. One of our readers is part of a program called Toy Mountain where you donate toys in Ottawa to build a mountain of toys that go to needy children. Great idea and I am sure different areas near you have a similar toy drive!
3) Donate your horror or general collectibles you might not want anymore. One reader pointed out how excited her son would be over something as simple as a chucky doll. The idea is that some of your horror knick knacks you have won on this site or collected on your own could put a big smile on a childs face. Key thing I think here is make sure its age appropriate.
4) Volunteer your time at a soup kitchen and help feed and more importantly lend an ear to a family or individual. As was pointed out by one of our readers nothing is more heart warming to a person in need then somebody who talks to them and not down to them. Also will no doubt make you feel awesome as well!
5) Box Up yours kids old toys if you have kids. Keeping in mind as one reader pointed out NEVER donate a broken toy. You dont want some kid getting all excited over a new toy only to find its busted.
5) Conduct a food drive with your friends, neighbours, school, co-workers. This one I am doing at my work. If I could figure out a way we could do an online food drive I would be totally game to devote an entire section of our site to it. If you have ideas on how we can do it feel free to comment.
6) Go spend an afternoon in a hospital reading to children and spending time with them.
So there you have it those are just a few of the comments that you all left on ideas for Holiday donations to help make the holiday a happy and fun time for you and for families in need. Please if you have comments, suggestions or your own ideas post them. Share these ideas and this topic with your friends and as a community of horror fans we can continue to try and do more then just write and talk about horror but help those around us in need!
