Cloverfield Monster Comes from Space?

Here is an interesting observation that I just had while doing some synopsis updates. Is the CloverField monster an alien from space? The synopsis implies it if only from one particular word which I have underlined below.

Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.

WE know the cloverfield monster can swim from the poster, and we know its the size of a skyscraper from the trailers and the photos of destroyed buildings with claw marks. Is it an alien? Or is it the godzilla theme of a earthly mutant disturbed from its sleep?
