Zodiac Directors Cut, Double Dip?Meh
The Zodiac Directors Cut is coming and it invites the question will you double dip? The movie is about 4 minutes longer then the original film which most of us I am sure have already seen on DVD. Normally for four extra minutes I would say forget it, its not worth it.
But I am a big crime thriller buff and this DVD has two things that stand out to me as worth the ticket price. Two documentaries about the real zodiac killer. Paramount tells me that they are titled "This is the Zodiac speaking – An in-depth look at the attacks of the Zodiac killer" and "Prime Suspect – A chilling look at the prime suspect in the Zodiac case".
Both are special features on the second disc of this seriously freaky true story tale. The question becomes are a couple special feature documentaries and a cool new cover art enough to make you double dip?
In the movie for those who have not seen it Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Robert Graysmith, the journalist and author of the two books, "Zodiac" and "Zodiac Unmasked," upon which the film is based. Robert Downey Jr. plays fellow reporter Paul Avery, and Mark Ruffalo the San Francisco homicide inspector in charge of the case.
The books tell the tale of the real life serial killer who was appropriately named "The Zodiac Killer". He ravaged San Francisco for 25 years and than he just disappeared. Graysmith and Avery used to work at the San Francisco Chronicle, where "The Zodiac Killer" would send letters taunting the police and the media.
