Aliens: Colonial Marines Reboot

Back in 2001 Electronic Arts was hard at work making a first person shooter for Sony's Playstation 2 based off of the Alien franchise. Titled, Aliens: Colonial Marines the game put you in charge of a squad of Marines as you fight your way through a ship full of xenomorph foes. However, in 2002 the game was shelved, reports had it that the game was too much for the PS2 to handle and resulted in clunky, uneven game play.

Being a huge fan of the franchise, I of course was very sad to learn the game had been shelved. However, it seems with advances in console technology, the game is coming back. IGN got word that Gearbox (folks behind Brothers in Arms) has gotten their hands on the game and is reviving it for release for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC and possibly Wii, Sega will be on board as publisher. As another tidbit, the March issue of Game Informer will have a front page story about the game.

I must say, I'm excited as hell. With the powerful engines of the next generation consoles, if Gearbox does its job well, we should get aliens that looks slimly and as real as they can make them. Hopefully they will deliver a solid action/survival horror-FPS when the game hits sometime in 2009.
