Shelter Fires Casting Director... Why?

Ok this struck me. Member Skidog sent over a news release from FOX where Shelter just fired their casting director for sending out a press release looking for quote;

extras who are extraordinarily tall or short, those with unusual body shapes and unusual facial features, especially eyes, and even people with physical abnormalities as long as they have normal mobility.

The filmmakers apparently fired the casting director for being insensitive after it caused a local uproar. Since when is employing people with an abnormality of being tall or small insensitive? Am I on the wrong foot here and speaking out of turn for thinking this firing is just idiotic? Shelter is a new supernatural thriller starring Julianne Moore and was written by Michael Cooney who wrote Identity which is a FANTASTIC thriller. Tks to Skidog for the heads up!
