Repo The Genetic Opera Release.... When?

For awhile word has been running around on what on earth will LionsGate end up doing with REPO The Genetic Opera. The two things irking horror fans are the fact its a horror musical and it stars Paris Hilton, but that wont hold the film up. Unless of course the studio is concerned it wont find its audience. Bill Mosely spoke to FANGORIA and told them the film is held up because Hollywood hates innovation;

“It’s an opera, so there’s barely a spoken word in it. It has comic-book panels which introduce certain segments and plot points, but it is all song. I just have a feeling that that’s going to make it difficult to sell; as we all know. Hollywood hates innovation until it makes money. and then it becomes a benchmark. I think it’s a great movie, but I believe it’s going to be an uphill fight to get it out in wide release, and right now I’m just doing whatever I can to publicize and put it out there.”

Having seen a SMALL portion of the film I can tell you its NIGHT and day better then Sweeney Todd from what I saw. Its a Rock Opera. Not a Musical. Its gritty, its very grindhouse in its look and feel and I loved it. Keeping in mind I saw a very short clip of it.. not the whole film. Although I know fans are up in arms over it being a musical I think its better to NOT call it a musical. Its a Horror-Rock-Opera. Dark Gritty and Bad ass. The Paris Hilton factor I have to side with those of you who say its beyond lame. But I also have to add onto that, she does a great job in the film from again... what I saw.

So at this point I am an advocate for the film, but that could change once I see the whole thing. I can confirm that when I asked LionsGate for the release date I was told it does not have one yet. What say you? Will you give the movie a chance? Will it hit theatres? Or is it better suited for a dvd release? Does the Paris factor irk you? The fact its a musical?
