New Phantasm IV DVD

Don Coscarelli's Phantasm series is one of the most interesting and somewhat bizarre film franchises for the horror genre. As well as it has had it's share of problems. The big issue that has had fans bellowing for quite a few years now is that Phantasm II has yet to make it's DVD debut in the United States. In a series like Phantasm, you really need to see the second part to understand a lot of stuff. Currently the biggest issue right now is will Coscarelli get funding for a Phantasm V?

But, until the day comes that Phantasm II makes DVD or Phantasm V gets made, Fangoria has some news to hold you over. Anchor Bay has acquired the rights to Phantasm IV: Oblivion and are planning to release a new DVD edition. There is already a DVD out there, but it's bare bones.

Special Features at the moment for the new Anchor Bay release:

  • Commentary with Don Coscarelli, Reggie Bannister, & Angus Scrimm
  • Retrospective Featurette

The artwork and final special features aren't ready at the moment, but mark your calenders as the new edition of Phantasm IV: Oblivion is due out August 26.
