More French Brutality: Martyrs Trailer!

Over the last few years, the French have really developed a knack for some bloody good horror films.  With the success of High Tension and recent films like Them(ils), Inside, and Frontier(s) leaving a bloody trail, you wonder whats next from the French.  Well, several months back we reported that the Weinsteins acquired Martyrs, another violent French film.  Martys just recently turned out to be one of the most talked about films at Cannes.  TwitchFilm reported that the Martyrs trailer has hit the internet and just like other recent French horrors it seems great.

The film recently got slapped with an 18+ rating in France, so you know the film is pretty graphic when they break out their most restrictive rating.  The reason why the film got so much buzz at Cannes was because of it's very realistic and brutal violence.  Check out the trailer below but be prepared.  I dont want to ruin any of the trailer but wow.  I dont know whats been causing this surge in violent French films as of late but I must say I like it.

In Martyrs, its the 1970's and a little girl named Lucie who was missing for over a year is discovered wandering by the side of a country road.  Near catatonic, she can say nothing about what has happened to her. The cops quickly find the place in which she's been incarcerated in a disused slaughterhouse. Every indication is that she never once left the empty, freezing room in which she was imprisoned. Filthy, starving, dehydrated, the child's body nonetheless bears no traces of sexual abuse - this was no pedophile abduction, but something far stranger.
