Repo The Genetic Opera Reviews.. Uh oh!
Posted By : Meh, Tuesday Jun,17
Filed Under : General Horror,

Its been ages since we have heard a peep out Repo The Genetic Opera and I am really starting to wonder what on earth is going on with it. The latest word is that it will get its world premier at Fantasia which Goon and I are planning on attending.

The problem is the word on the street is the movie is TERRIBLE from insiders at other festivals. Obviously since I wrote about it often my concerns with the movie were, its a musical and it stars Paris Hilton and I know from reader feedback on the boards I am not alone on the Paris part.

Some time back Bill Mosely spoke to FANGORIA and told them the film is held up because Hollywood hates innovation;

“It’s an opera, so there’s barely a spoken word in it. It has comic-book panels which introduce certain segments and plot points, but it is all song. I just have a feeling that that’s going to make it difficult to sell; as we all know. Hollywood hates innovation until it makes money. and then it becomes a benchmark. I think it’s a great movie, but I believe it’s going to be an uphill fight to get it out in wide release, and right now I’m just doing whatever I can to publicize and put it out there.”

Now unfortunately it seems Hollywood is not the only one hating innovation. The early word is that the movie is absolutely terrible. I recently spoke with 2 people who have seen it and managed to coax one into giving us a quote on the condition of anonymity. The quote given goes like this;

"When Paris Hilton is the least of your worries you know you have a train wreck on your hands. At the end of the movie I just felt sorry for everyone involved. The only kudo i can give it, is it did try to do something relatively different and I would take this over yet another SAW movie."

Ouch! Now that said it did get picked up for Fantasia and that says something positive about it and although I have not seen the entire film I have seen a short snippet of it and yes kids... despite the Paris Hilton factor I liked what I saw. Its NIGHT and day better then Sweeney Todd from what I saw. Its a Rock Opera. Not a Musical. Its gritty, its very grindhouse in its look and feel and I loved it. But here I am giving you my review after seeing maybe 10minutes TOPS of the movie.

Other horror sites including Bloody Disgusting have said great things about the movie ( as have I ) so its looking like this movie is going to be love hate. You will either love it, or hate it. The question is when will we see the movie and will LionsGate be willing to put it into theatres if the only ones showing it any love are us die hard horror fans.

Although there is some negative mainstream buzz coming our way about the film I think we will have to wait till some die hard horror fans get a chance to see it before we cast the verdict on Repo The Genetic Opera. I know despite nay sayers, and my own dis-like for Paris Hilton I will be checking the movie out.  Watch the trailer on TerrorFeed.
