Dorian Gray Loads Up

Today the trades announced that Rebecca Hall would be toplining along with Colin Firth and Ben Barnes in the adaptation to Oscar Wildes The Picture of Dorian Gray. Barnes has the titular role of Dorian Gray and Firth will play Lord Henry Wotton, the aristocrat who corrupts Gray with his worldview. If you have read the novel you might remember him as Harry. No word on who Hall will portray. Producer Barnaby Thompson and director Oliver Parker will reunite once again for this film.

Other cast members announced today are Ben Chaplin, Emilia Fox, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Fiona Shaw, Maryam D’Abo, Pip Torrens, Douglas Henshall, Caroline Goodall, Michael Culkin, Johnny Harris and newcomer Max Irons, son of Jeremy Irons.

Based on "The Picture of Dorian Gray," the story centers on Gray (Barnes), a young man who becomes the subject of a painting. As the man descends into a hedonistic lifestyle, the portrait begins to age and morph, but he doesn't. Thompson has said that Parker wants to make this "a visceral, dark horror story".
